I stumbled upon some postings here the other day that began in 2009. One of the comments was for plinking, just use .32acp cartridges instead of the .32 long, at a much better price.
While I have access to a nice little S&W mdl. 30, I do not have any .32acp to check this out. Any of you .32 long fans know how this works? Thanks

Of late I just use my own little wad cutters, VERY accurate so I have never tried the 32's. I have some left over from a couple 32's I sold so I guess I could try them. I last loaded 10 boxes of WC's so I have plenty.:)

The .32 a.c.p. is a semi rimmed cartridge, it will chamber in a .32 long revolver however extractor stars can ride over the smaller rim sometimes when one is trying to eject empties. I have fired .32 a.c.p. cartridges out of several different .32 Long revolvers and never had a problem other than extraction, and a different point of impact. I can usually find .32 Long around here so there is little need.

.32 ACP will work just fine in a .32 S&W long chambered revolver. This only includes solid frame guns in .32 S&W Long, or .32 Colt New Police. Do not shoot the .32 ACP in any hinged frame revolver chambered for .32 S&W.

Any extraction problems as a result of the smaller rim can be avoided simply by holding the gun muzzle-up when extraction. This way the cases won't slip off the extractor and fall under it! This is the proper way of handling any revolver when extracting, not muzzle down, lift the cases with the extractor and pick them out with the fingers.

Not to hijack but can one also shoot .32 s&w in a model.30 or 31 chambered for .32 s&w long?

L to R, .32 a.c.p., .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .32 H&R magnum, .32/20.

To expand, I took Project 616 out to the range today and fired one or two cylinders each of 32 S&W (short) and 32 ACP through it, just so I can say that it works. I would be perfectly willing to fire 32 ACP in my revolvers chambered for 32 S&W Long, and some of the ACP loads have pretty interesting bullets for use in pocket pistols. My little I-frame 32 snub will probably get to carry them if the good JHPs I got from Georgia Arms become unavailable.

Hp are waste in the 32 sw long they will not open. For defense stick with a 90-100 gr. hard cast swc or flat tip. They will reach the vitals. Even in pocket auto's like the 32 acp and 380 acp the best defense load is Fio or S&B full metal jacket ball which hits 1000fps and 14" + penatration needed to reach vitals. Hollow point's just don,t open and with there lighter weight they don,t penetrate far enough to reach vitals. In real life shootings the 32 and 380 ball in most cases doe's not excite the body.
