I have a S&W Model 916-A pump shotgun -12 Ga,- 3 inch chamber, cylinder bore, slug type sights, Stainless steel type finish (but I do not think it's stainless steel) 20 inch barrel with a full length magazine tube , Marked on the barrel "Springfield,MA.,- Made in the USA" Serial number 791BXX, medium dark wood stock and forearm.
The gun is in very good condition, only wear showing is on the magazine tube, rub marks from the slide. The gun functions perfectly but has a poorly made and finished trigger guard and gold plated trigger. The barrel is fixed and cannot be removed.
I would say the overall finish is not up to S&W standards (not bad just not S&W quality) such as magazine tube welds not polished and so on. The gun also has stock and magazine tube mounted sling swivels
Several years back I paid about $150.00 for the thing and only because it was an S&W shotgun and I had not seen one before.
So, when was it made?
Is it worth holding on to?
Any other information would be welcome
Thank you
Penmon AKA Jim
