Saw a nice used model 10 today for sale. 4" bull bbl. Tight lock up, no end shake, tight bbl. gap, and forcing cone looked solid. Nice trigger too. Bluing is pretty good with only some minor holster wear. Original wooden grips. Looks like it wasn't shot much, probably a former LE or Security service gun. S/N C917XXX.

Can any one advise year of manufacture please?
I know the Model 10 is an S&W icon. I don't own a K frame. Dealer wants $229.00 for this one and I have it on hold. Opinions?

Most likely 1967. As always, price depends on condition and the local market. That sounds like a good price to me.

Hope this helps.

Steve

I bought a similar model 10 a few months ago for $225... best money I've ever spent on a pistol.... You should buy it and enjoy it!

My 10-8 that I bought a couple of months ago was $269 shipped. Was a Austrailan Police gun. ( cosmetic issues that I fixed) Good shooter! $225 sounds like a great price! Of course it depends on condition. Let us know how you make out. Bob

The Model 10 is everything you need in a defensive weapon, and nothing you don't. That 10 will handle all the modern +P defensive ammo, it can be used for CC in the right holster, and it will stand up to a lifetime of range shooting.

Model 10 best wheel gun ever made.if it's under 300 bucks and gun is tight buy it.end of story. Happy shooting

That's a great price...I just picked up a model 1-08 in Nickel for just over $400 and a Model 64 for just under. I never see guns that price around hear unless they have a tremendous amount of wear and or rust.

I really like my Model 10 Heavy barrels.

And you don't have it in your hand....????

Good price and you won't ever be sorry you bought it.

Mine was a gift..from a fellow leo who I worked with for years.
I would shoot it at the range when we qualified and loved it.
His wife gave it to me when he passed on...

Yeah, I "need" another Model 10 like Custer needed more Indians, but I would have shelled out that kind of cash for a gun like that anytime, anywhere

I bought a pristine 10-5 with 4 inch tapered barrel about 6 weeks ago for $375 and thought I got a good deal so you should be running and not walking to buy the heavy barrel for the price you said.

Well its a done deal. The Heavy Bbl. model 10 is mine. Can't wait to try it out. I would imagine they were regulated to 158 grain ammo? If it was made in 1967 can I shoot +P ammo in it? Would it be the 10-5? Anyway, thank you all for the encouragement. The more research I did on the Model 10, (and given the price), the more it became clear that I should not pass it up. What a nice trigger on this one. Someday I'll figure out the picture posting thing. Thanks guys.

Good get. The best price I've seen around Columbus is $250 for Police trade-in's. Usually $300 - $400 depending on condition is the going rate.

You'll really love that model 10, one of the finest handguns ever made.

Here's one I was given a million years ago. Finish was terrible, with some light pitting on parts of the cylinder. But the old girl (former NYPD service handgun - C839xxx) was tight. Had it refinished (sorry, I've forgotten which finish I used or who did it ~ my bad!) with a more protective covering then bluing and had the pitting removed. Now she's a real beauty.
