I have a Model 16-4 with a 4" barrel. I purchased it many years ago. The gun is absolutely beautiful, however the previous owner removed the original grips and replaced them with rubber Hogue grips. It sits perfectly in my hand.

While an excellent shooter, it is time for me to sell it to another aficionado of the little beauties. No box or accoutrements; just the gun (almost as new).

Any ideas as to value? I would like to try the local market prior to using a national gun sales site.

Any input?

It is worth north of $1,000 easily. I wouldn't it in our classified section.

I'm a definite fan of these revolvers and you have a very sought after model but I simply must disagree that is "definitely has to be worth north of $1,000"

Here's why I say this:
They offered a 4, 6 and 8-3/8" and the 6-inch is the most common and perhaps by a slight bit... the least desireable. The 8-3/8" is arguably the hardest to find and it's price reflects that, but it's a smaller group of buyers that want the long tube.

Your 4-inch is likely the most "in demand" of the three. However, missing the box absolutely hits the value but missing the gorgeous combat stocks is a major hurt on price/value. Emotion aside, this is simply the market speaking.

Folks would to get a shot at your revolver... because they have a hard time justifying the ever increasing price for one of these in box with those valuable original stocks.

I could see your 4-inch 16-4 going for a thousand, sure, but the largest market for these, the one single place that trades more of them than any other single venue is: Gunbroker.

What you offer likely wouldn't eclipse $1,050 on Gunbroker currently.

Of course... any odd price could happen at any time.

I don't sell many guns but I had the twin to your 16-4 about 10 years ago. It was near-new in the box, but wasn't really in my realm of keepers. I thought I was doing good, selling it at a pretty good profit so I could buy another pre-war gun. If only I had known it would be worth another 300% today.....If I remember, my 'at a profit' sales price was $500 or $550. :-( I got lucky and had less than $400 in it. It had smooth square butt combat stocks!

Even without the box and combats, the going rate for a 4" 16-4 in excellent condition these days would still be in the $1000 range, IMO. I always favor listing in the classifieds here on the Forum because of less hassle, no fees, knowledgeable buyers, etc.

A few additional photos

This should provide a good sampling of the revolver. The grips are 'Uncle Mike's" and not Hogue.
