So I went to the range this morning and spent an hour shooting a few guns, when I was finished I walked over to the gun store portion of the building. The owner sees me walk in and tells me that he was going to call me because he just took in a gun on trade. He brings out this S&W no dash Model 18. The gun has lived a shooter's life, it has honest wear but no abuse marks. It locked up tight and everything seemed great mechanically. I asked him how much, he said $500. I said "I'll take it." After completing the paperwork, I bought 50 rounds of 22lr and walked back over to the range. I shot all 50 rounds DA at 7 yards and it shot perfectly. I looked up the serial number and it's from 1958. Any idea on what a shooter quality no dash model 18 is valued at these days? I think I did pretty good on the price?? Anyway, I'm happy with the purchase.

That's the first one I've noticed with a red ramp. Do I see a white outline rear sight too? I'd say you did very well.

Yep, a real steal. And it looks a lot better than you made it sound. My -3
Is the most accurate handgun I've owned. It looks about like yours but much younger. Your's was made in the prime time of U.S. post war gun manufacturing.

You are way ahead with that buy!

Personal opinion, of course but the 4" barrel version of the K-22 is my favorite and if the sights are a red insert front with a white outline rear your revolver has some very nice upgrades. I can see also that it shoots well in your hands, enjoy!

Thanks all for the information. Yes, it does have the white outline on the rear sight. I was going to ask the store owner on what he paid for it this morning but decided not to….I didn't want him to come to the realization that he gave me a good deal. :) That way I might be able to snag another good deal in the future.

I've got a model 18 from about 1958 but it has the plain ramped front sight, no red insert. You got a great price on your model 18. They are great 22 LR revolvers.

$500 nowadays is a STEAL for a M18. I got mine 2 years ago for $700 from a Forum buddy. It's a 4 screw M18. It did come with the correct diamond walnut magnas. I put on some old "butchered" smooth targets on it to be more comfy for my large hand.
