INSIDE MY SAFE WITH MY S&W\'s
Well Christmas came a little late for me, I stumbled into this "MINT" one owner, once fired, never holstered S&W Model 19-3 Serial # 8K87XXX for a price that proved I was on Santas very very very good list.

My question is do any of my fellow forum members own one in the same serial number range (1975 production) that also has the red ramp front sight? I have seen some with and some without and was just curious.

Thanks 1 old 0311, thats some Model 19 collection you have, The SCSW 3rd Edition Page 186 shows a variation of the Model 19 produced in 1965 for the Office of Naval intelligence with 4" Barrel, Roundbutt, Service trigger, Standard hammer, red ramp front sight with white outline rear sight. So I am very interested to find out if anyone else has a 2.5" 19-3 with a RR front.

None of my 19-3's have the red ramp. Most of my 19-4's do.

Nice snub 19! Congrats! :) Regards 18DAI

Thanks 18DAI, Hows North Carolina treating you, I am hoping to get down to Charlotte this summer.....Hmmmm I seem to notice most you my fellow forum members have several model 19's in their respective collections!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

None of my M19-3's have the red front site, but my M19-4's do. My M19-3's serial numbers start 1K,5K,8K and the M19-4's start 31K and 32K.
Good looking M19!

My 19-3 has a serial number of 6K29XXX and no red ramp and no white outlined rear sight.

Updated with a picture!

Thanks JCS&W, the action on this gun is amazing as it looks.

MacA, the information on your 19 is much appreciated as I am trying to figure out if the RR was a optional feature. I know one of our resident model 19 experts will see the thread sooner or later.

My pleasure! The man to talk to is snw19_357. Hopefully he'll chime in, but you might want to shoot him a PM.

I've never been that good for a Christmas present. You did well. Very nice looking 19. Guess i'll have to start being better. No wait, i'll just buy myself another gun. That always works, and i can be my same old ornery self all year. Keep the pix of those 19 snubbies coming fellas.

BigBoku, does yours have the white outline rear also?

They certainly didn't seem to be too common but I have seen more than a few. 6K612xx has the RR/WO.

By the early '60s at least, most likely earlier, they showed up in the catalog as an option.

When they started using the six digit product codes in 1984, there was one for a 2.5" 19 w/ RR/WO; 100703 (blue) and 100715 (nickel).

It's 1972 (3K101xx) but I have a Model 19 with a red insert and white outline rear sight blade.

Thanks CHUD333, I think it was being extra good and lucky, long story short the gun came from the original owner, she purchased the gun brand new as a home defense weapon, she fired it once and it has sat in a safe for the last 36 years!!!!!! She did not have the box or papers and did not want to renew her pistol license so I scored the gun for 275.00!!!!!

Thankyou MacA for pointing me in the right direction and Thankyou snw19_357 for your reply as you come highly recommended on the subject of all things model 19. The SWSC 3rd edition page 186 lists a variation of the Model 19 produced in 1965 for the Office of Naval intelligence with 4" Barrel, Roundbutt, Service trigger, Standard hammer, red ramp front sight with white outline rear sight. The variant I have is a 2.5" RR front sight "without" the white outline rear sight. Teezer posted a picture of his 19-3 2.5" serial # 10KXXXX with a RR front sight, I am sending him a PM to see if it has the white outline rear sight.

Again Thankyou for your input as it is very much appreciated.

I think you and I spoke before about this pistol in the hands of one of my friends. He's deployed at the moment, but I was pretty sure his front sight was yellow, and he assures me it is a red ramp. Otherwise, his is exactly as you describe. The only problem is that his grips are "wrong" in every way. It came to him with Pachmayr compac RUGER SPEED SIX grips on it. They "fit" and it functioned fine. I provided him a set of factory round butt combat grips as a gift for his 30th birthday, and I think he's since gotten something else on there, and moved the combats to another revolver. It's a very interesting piece, for sure.
