I have a friend who wants to sell deceased brother's S&W Model 25-3 45LC Anniversary Model revolver with case and book. She asked me what the value is, and I have see a couple go for around $1200-1300. However, the silver/nickel medallion is missing from the case, and the insert has a small tear under the muzzle/front sight area. Otherwise the revolver is unfired and mint. I am guessing the value is ~$1100?, but tough to figure....any ideas?

As described, I’d consider $1100 a fair price. The -3 is a tweener; it’s a -2 that wants to be a -5. I prefer the longer cylinder of the -5 or 625s chambered for the 45 Colt.

Guess the question is, and just wondering, how much the complete package (with medallion) matters as a collectible. I frankly would just be interested in the gun with the box, if I could afford right now! Thanks for the feedback, gives me good advice to pass on.

It depends if you want a collectible or a shooter. Every -3 I've ever encountered had terribly oversized cylinder throats. Accuracy is questionable. It may shoot fine, maybe not. This is a well known problem with early .45 Colt S&Ws.
However, I would say that $1100 is in the ball park.

I bought mine a couple years ago with no wooden box, no book, and no coin for $1800 new and unfired. If you can get the complete package for $1100 you are paying a price from 10 years ago.

I passed on a complete package last year at a pawn shop in Emmett, ID. He was asking $1500 but offered it to me for $1300. Probably should have bought it, but not enough meat on the bone to flip. He’d been sitting on it for several months.

I passed on one a couple years ago the whole package unfired for less than a thousand from what I remember. It was a good deal, but started doing research on the firearm and it had some serious issues so I passed. Seller was not happy, but you can research the problem with chambering of the ammo. Can't remember the problem, but it scared me away.

Also remember Hickock45 testing the 25-5 and he said there was a problem as well with the earlier models but resolved by the 25 - 5. I held off and went with the 25 -5. Just my opinion.
