Blue? Nickel? Barrel length? Condition 100%? 99%?
Barrel length makes all the difference in the world. Shorter is more , longer is less.

I would say $1,000 for a very nice, clean 6" gun. Then add three bills for shorter lengths as lowrider mentions and subtract a bill or two for anything longer.
My local gun store has a 4" M27-2 in very nice condition on sale for $1089. If I had the cash, I'd jump on it.

S&W should stop the stupid trigger lock and start turning these out--they'd sell 'em by the case-load, 365 days a year.

Yes. Sell 'em by the case load..... But they MUST adhere to the original design. No lock whatsoever.
Pay as little as possible but, as much as necessary. Mod. 27's, as you describe this one, do not "grow on trees". This model is, as you know, desirable, collectable and will only increase in value.
You missed by a dollar ninety-two.
I bought my Model 27-2 6 inch, in presentation box, new on July 28th 1979. It cost me $348.08 with tax. I still have both the pistol and the original cash register receipt.

I'd say it's worth around $1400 for a lnib 5" with presentation box and tools.
If you don't want it for a grand tell me where to call and I will buy it
