I have a S&W model 37 no dash that I just bought at a gun show and I was wanting to find out when it was made. The ser# is J9420XX. Thanks for your help.

No, the barrel is not pinned.

Thanks. I asked because 1982 was the year during which the pinned barrel was abandoned. Oh, and by the way, since I was remiss in my earlier post, welcome to the forum.

I carried one for years and had no problems. It saw lots of range time and even had a few +P's run through her which is not recommended by S&W. They are a nice lightweight little gun built before the locks and MIM parts.

I got a Model 37 flat-latch with a serial number of 411xxx that must have been made aroung late 1963 or early 1964 that I love. It is a square-butt model with the original diamond magnas on it and it is a joy to shoot and carry. I do not shoot +p ammo in it but it still looks and shoots great. No blueing loss and adonized frame is still pristine as well as the hammer and trigger case-hardening. The color difference between the frame and cylinder/barrel is just enough to notice (frame is slightly darker) it but they are still a good match.Nary a sign of the frame cracking and not worried it will.

They make very nice carry-guns although I rarely carry it as I have a FEW other guns I am less afraid of getting scratched up. Enjoy yours and congrats.
