As many on this forum know, I am a long time S&W owner and shooter. I shot competition for years with handgun, shotgun, and rifle. I have some early Smiths and I have some current Smiths. I would like to post this for the benefit of those who are always hearing how Smith & Wesson's best days are behind them.
This is one of the first two days it has been in the seventies since last October. Of course, it isn't perfect. The wind is blowing near thirty miles per hour in gusts. Nonetheless, I was determined to go to the range and blow some of the cobwebs off my guns. It has been a really bad winter, by our standards (near fifty inches of snow compared to our average year of 7.5" and days at 15 below zero).
I decided to shoot my Model 520. I am not yet in shooting shape so only plan to shoot forty shots (four targets) as my back has been acting up. Every year, I wonder if this will be my last year of effective shooting (I hit 79 years old in two months). Well, if this target is any indication, this year ought to be "tolerable" at the range.
The wind made things somewhat difficult. My first target would illustrate this. However, I settled down, went back to the fundamentals and this is what I got. This target was shot at 25 yards, standing.
Here's my little piece of modern Smith (complete with composite barrel and sintered metal parts, etc - you've heard the complaints).
Here is the best target I shot today (I had another 100x100 but not quite as high an "X" count). I LIKE my "modern" Smith - I REALLY like it!
Thanks for listening.
