If you want a 642-size/ weight j frame in 357 mag you’ll need to go to a 340. But I wouldn’t recommend it...it’s the only gun I’ve seen make someone bleed.

The first +p 642 would be a -1 from 1996.
The 642 has never been produced in 357 as far as I know.

Here's my 1996 642-1.
Looks like its due for a good cleaning. :o
But it is an old picture. ;)

Personally I don't find the 640-1 loaded with .357 Magnums brutal at all.

This was the first handgun that I ever purchased and I'm not soo sure I've ever even fired a .38 through it.

My 642-1 has enough "energy" with +P that I figure I don't want an Airweight 357. The 38+P has plenty of knock down power.

I used to love the 442 with Uncle Mikes Boot Grips. After my hands got old I switched to Pachmayr Compacts and Hogue Tamers. They still fit my pocket and waist and are a lot more comfortable at the Range.

I have a 340PD, the .357 Centennial sibling to the 442/642. It is a handful with .357 for sure, but fine with .38 +P and only a little over 11 oz. It is the prefect J- frame for concealed carry IMO; love that big green fiber optic front sight! I carry with critical defense 110 gr +P rounds and it’s accurate and quick to get back on target. Well, as accurate as I can make a snubby shoot anyway. I’m satisfied with this gun; probably would be the last one I’d give up.
