How cool is that! Wow!! I don't think 76's are crazy expensive, even with the inflated Class 3 market being what it is. You might be surprised how easy it is to fill that box. Conversely, don't be surprised if you get offers from guys that already have one!!

Now, if someone has the matching number gun...you almost have to let them have it!

A friend of mine back when S&W 76 was still being made was asked to do a demonstration for a police department. He knew someone who worked for a water department that had just got a lazor. It was really about the size of the model 76 body and took a 12 volt car battery to run it. I cost about $4000 in 1970s dollars. They used hose clamps and fastened it on the S&W 76 Body and went to an indoor range. The 76 was impressive but that little dot showing where the bullets were going was the most impressive part of the show. I do not know if the show sold many 76s but that LAZOR was something to see.

Very cool, I've never seen photos of the original boxes. I'd love to have an original box and the paperwork to go with my S&W 76 which although is not S/N 2449 is nevertheless fairly close.

OP - PM me if you are interested in selling it

My department had some of those 76’s in the mid-1970’s. We had some vintage Thompson’s and Model 10’s that were traded for subguns and Model 59’s. The 76 was a fun gun to shoot.

Sheriff Bufford Pusser of "Walking Tall" movie fame had one and I read he used it to shoot up a house of one of the guys who he thought killed his wife. Serial number 98176.

Hey Tom:

My M76 came to me without its box. Sure would like to make it complete. Let me know if you are interested in putting it together with the gun. I'd like that. And to sweeten the pot, if that box finds its way down to South Florida you would have to deliver by hand so that we could run a couple of boxes through the 76 together! It as good runner.

Thanks.

Regards,
Charlie

Back in the 70's my department had four of them. I carried one of them in my unmarked cruiser. I got it out a few times but never used it. Just the sight of it would often calm things down. It was a bunch of fun to shoot. A friend gave me 1000 rounds of milsurp 9 mm and we had a lot of fun at the range.

I fired one many years ago at a shoot in Minnesota.
Worked fine but I prefer the original Swedish "K" that the 76 was
based on. Have only shot one of those once as well.

Been playing with NFA since the 80’s but speak little of it here cause it doesn’t fit much in these forums. I would think that if you went over to subguns.com and posted a pic and the story you may find the gun’s owner.
