A friend of mine found this box among his grandfather's things, who was a high-ranking police officer before the war. His command was right in St. Peter's Square in front of the Vatican Basilica. I think he had this revolver when he was young.
His uncles want me to sell this box to some collector, so it doesn't end up in the garbage in a few years. I would like to know the value so as not to make mistakes since it is not mine and I would like to show them your evaluation for the transparency of the subject.
My opinion is an evaluation of a few dollars but I didn't express an opinion with my friends to avoid misunderstandings.

Your box has value, but not a significant amount. Simply because a lot of Safety Hammerless revolvers were manufactured, sat in the drawers of bed stands for decades, and many in their original boxes, the boxes being in near new condition today, like the revolver inside. A near new Safety Hammerless revolver with like box can be had at auction today for between $800 and $1200, and so I value your box with condition issues at $50 or so.

Thank you, you confirmed my assessment.

I had the same era box with gun in the past. It was a 3" that shipped in 1902, which is the era of your gun box. The bottom label for genuine S&W pearl grips was used from the late 1890s to very early 1900s. Here is what the revolver looked like that was placed in that style box.

Boxes with delaminated cloth covering is quite difficult to repair and the box is in poor condition, so would think that $50 would be the very top price someone should pay.
