I am looking for any assistance finding any information of my fathers handgun I inherited!

Welcome! The model name is consistent with a Colt revolver. Photos of the gun in question would help but one of these would have an exposed extractor rod and the cylinder latch is pulled backward to open the action.

Another possibility is it is a foreign copy of an S & W.
 
That serial number would make it a Colt “Official Police” revolver, from around 1953. The Colt OP was a revolver model which was widely used by police since the early 20th century, and was the principal competitor to Smith and Wesson’s “Military and Police” Model revolver in the law enforcement market. Few, if any, major law enforcement agencies use revolvers today. A picture would confirm identification.
