S&W or Walther PPS

I put this in the semi-auto forum but no reponses. Maybe someone here will have some information. I just had the opportunity to hold a S&W PPS. I think Walther makes this same model. Anyway it's a great looking 9 mm. Very thin, perhaps the size of a Kahr P9. It looks like it would make a great carry pistol, maybe paired with a Remora holster.
Does anyone have experience with this pistol? Is it reliable? What's the going price for one? Any help would be appreciated.

i recently got to shoot a friend's PPS and liked it a lot. great trigger let off and very accurate. nice and thin and he really likes carrying it. it is made in germany by walther and imported by smith and wesson. he has the eight rd mags with the little toe and it makes for a great grip. lee

From what I hear they have great triggers and are very good guns but jmo get a 1911 just as thin and you get 8 or 7 rounds of 45acp

I have had my Walther PPS for 4 years and love it. Great trigger and spot on accuracy. Bought the Shield a few weeks ago and it is equally fantastic. I would have a VERY hard time choosing between the two.

Hi Bill,

I'm from West Lafayette, IN, too (well, the country west of town out past Ft. Ouiatenon), and I have a good deal of experience with the Walther PPS in a Remora holster.

Works great, basically. I've put up threads here before on the combo, but suffice it to say that the gun has been flawless except for a broken slide stop spring after a couple of years. This caused premature slide lock during firing - easy solution was to take out the slide stop until a replacement spring arrived from S&W in a few days.

I carry the gun with Speer's short barrel +P Gold Dot load, which does just south of 1200 fps from my gun. The gun is accurate (mine has a pretty darned decent trigger for a subcompact) and controllable, and carries very easily IWB in the Remora (pocket-carries somewhat less well - it's a little big and square, but works great in cargo shorts).

Used prices on these seem to be in the $450 range, with new ones running around $630 around here.

Hey, have a pork tenderloin sandwich for me (can't get a good one here in the high desert) - the PPS/Remora combo fills me with complete confidence and will serve you well.

I've had a 9mm PPS for about 6 months. We've got 400 rounds through it, I think. It was reliable right out of the box.

I see Jetguns has them online for about $530. My local shop was asking about $650. The price has been coming down, though that online price is actually up over what I paid there.

great gun, I loved mine but ended up selling it to a forum member hear. It bit my left hand because I wrap the firing hand with my support hand. I cant break a 18 year old method that is now fully engrained so off it went. I waiting for my Boberg 9mm to replace it.

Nice single stack shooter. Too heavy and large for the pocket therefore I'd rather the P99AS Compact.

Dunno about the S&W or current Walthers, but I own a 1980 vintage PPK/s imported by Interarms. The DA pull is so tough, if I were to carry it, I think I'd just keep the chamber empty. Racking the slide couldn't take much longer than working that DA trigger and would definitely be more accurate.

S&W did not ever make a PPS. The weapon in question has always been made only by Walther. S&W was the importer, not the manufacturer.

The PPS is a great gun, I can pocket carry mine with the six round mag in it. The biggest thing about the PPS is the paddle mag release, people either love it or hate it. I will say this once it is in the holster, there is no way the magazine can be released.
