I've discovered that parts for older S&W revolvers must be made of unicorn teeth. That is the only thing that could explain why it is so hard to find a front sight blade for my 29-4.

I called S&W and twice they sent me the wrong part. After being unable to get it done on my own I dropped it off with a local gunsmith. S&W sent him the wrong part too...apparently they just send everyone a sight from a NEW model 29...this despite the fact that you tell them you don't want a part for the new gun...you want one for a 29-4...and you tell them when it was made...and you tell them that the last sight they sent didn't fit because it was for the wrong model...none of it matters.

I'm starting to think about not shooting it anymore once i get it fixed. It's been out of action for months.

Anyone else have problems getting parts for older S&W's? Are they really made from unicorn teeth? Or perhaps made from unobtanium?

It might be that they don't have any of the earlier front sights. You would be suprised at some to the parts I have called S&W and was told they don't make them anymore and their spare parts supply was exhusted. Some of these for pistols less than 30 years old. It's funny because a good Smith revolver thats taken care of can last a long long time.

You might end of having some interested gunsmith fabricate a proper front sight. It should not be that difficult.
