OK I need to know if S&W still restores orignal S&W Schofields ?
I bought one off GB
the gun is a smooth gun with very sharp edges.
Do they still reblue the old guns whats the costs involved. Gun has a P on the back of cylinder and i think a W on the main frame under the cylinder.

No,they do not.In fact, they will decline to work on many pre 1957 models,as they don't have parts to make them perfect mechanically, and they won't assume liability for returning guns in less than that mechanical condition.
I would advise against touching it-restoration doesn't enhance value, unless, perhaps,it's a real dog.A reblue will kill value-the gun's appeal is as it currently sits, unmolested.
There are competent fellows who work on these mechanically-someone will be along with a name.

If the only "restoration" you are thinking of is a reblue, perish the thought! It can be done by a few established restorers, but at much more expense than your gun is worth, and you will instantly destroy any collector value. Ed.

OK makes sence.
its still has blue in protected areas so thats better to leave it alone its a mostly gray gun smooth with no pitting .
all orignal with ex bore it has sharp corners , grip with cartouse on right side still.
I will post some pics once i have it in my mits.
Thanks for the advise .

I would never re-blue an original Schofield. The value will tank on it. They are only original once. Leave it alone!

To put this in dollar terms, I think a top rate refinish from one of only a handful of qualified gunsmiths could easily cost $500+. For under $800 you can get a ANIB Schofield reproduction that you can shoot all day. If you refinish the original Schofield, you are destroying at minimum a thousand dollars in value.
