I think the late author Robert B. Parker had a pump S&W 12 ga. Mentioned it in his detective novels. I think several of the guns mentioned were among those he owned, but this is speculation on my part.

Never met anyone who bought an S&W long gun, although they should be good. Husqvarna made many of the rifles.

Beretta tried, like S&W, to compete with the Remington 870. Didn't work out well for either firm.

I'd be very interested in seeing your photos. Is your gun their idea of competing with the Rem. 1100?

Buddy of mine has a police/riot model with an integral mag the same length as the barrel. He also has a semi-auto w/ 28" bbl., and Husqvarna-made S&W bolt rifle in 7mm rem. mag.

How about 4: Mod 916 Eastfield, Mod 1000M, Mod 3000 (police model with folding stock + extra slug barrel), and another Mod 3000 (standard model). Luv 'em all.

Boy i have no idea if it was competing with the 1100, It looks very generic.

I had a 1000P (I think that was the designation at the time). It was later called the Model 3000 I believe.
A decent pump gun. A field gun that I used for the last of my hunting days and some clay bird shooting.
It was a used gun when I got it but it worked well and I shot it for a couple years back then w/o any problems.
Made in Japan IIRC.

The earlier Model 916 was the Noble Firearms designed pump and had a real bad reputation for reliability and parts breakage.
But like everything else, there are a few more than pleased owners of them around yet.

The semi auto 1000 and pump 3000 were/are excellent and reliable shotguns.

Digging through some of my old S&W catalogs and brochures I found that the Model 1000 semi-auto was already being imported in 1974. I don't have any catalogs for 1970-1973 but the "Blue Book of Gun Values" says 1972-1984 for the semi-auto. The first mention I see of the 1000P/3000 pump shotgun is a new products for the '80s brochure.
S&W did discontinue the importation, from Japan, of the Howa manufactured Model 1000 semi-auto and 3000 pump shotguns, along with 1500 and 1700 series of rifles after 1984.

The Turkish over/unders and side by side Smith & Wesson imported for a few years are really nice shotguns at their price point.

I have a 20 gauge 1000 semi-auto, It's a fine gun, and works very well, but I've gotten to old and cranky to chase shells. I tried giving it and some .22's to the local boy scouts, but they've never replied to the message I left them, so I guess they don't need any.

I"ve got one picked up new in 1975 . Was hunting a lot of Ducks, Geese in those days. After seeing this thread I broke it down last night (bolt was frozen) . I will put it back together tonight ,gun was filthy . Going to remove plug an or find longer tube for more round ,no longer kill bird moved on to other activities ..S & W 12 gauge made in Japan

A few years ago I was able to pick up a Model E Gold Elite.
This is a round frame SxS 20 ga. with 26 in bbls and fixed chokes and single trigger.
It is a very beautiful gun that was made in Turkey. I am quite pleased with it and it is now my favorite goto gun for grouse in Northern Michigan.
I will go for it every time over my other Brownings and Berettas.
My understanding is that this was the right gun at the wrong time. S&W no longer offers this beauty.
So sad :(

I bought four of the Gold Elite sxs 20 gauges a few years ago when CDN was unloading them. Nice shotguns IMO.

Cabela's selling the same gun as the Gold Elite. It is called the Dickinson. They have them in 12, 16 and 20 gauge in double and single trigger versions. They also come with thin wall choke tubes.

Gold elite

Bought a 20 ga Gold elite SxS few years back.....English stock....beautiful shotgun...have hunted birds with it since then.....next to my BSA 16 ga SxS, it is my favorite bird swatter.

I own two Model 1000P's: both are pump, 12 gauge, Improved Cylinder choke, and 3" chamber; one is used for casual clay-birding, while the other is never-fired in box. These are the earlier guns. The 1000P was subsequently renumbered to Model 3000 (the later 1000's were semi-automatic). Nice bluing and nice wood finish on these Japanese-made firearms. Discontinued around 1982, I believe.
