Rebuilding sight on my K frame. Need basic steps less and detail hints on the round spring use to hold the elevation screw.

Do you have the Kunhausen book on S&W's? There are detailed instructions in there. To remove the spring clip which holds the elevation nut in the sight assembly, take a dull x-acto blade or (my preference) a dental pick. Put all in a large clear bag, and gently hook the spring clip and pry up to remove. Be careful, as they are really easy to lose. A very fine pointed needle nose pliers can assist you in replacement.

Sorry no manual.

To note: I purchase a new round spring clip. The spring clip is not "cut", so I am guessing that you place the round sping clip in the assembly and tighten the elevation screw. The tightening of the screw will "snap" the spring clip and the clip will seat itself into the groove. Is this correct?

The spring clip should be cut already. I replaced a stripped elevation screw today and I ordered two extra spring clips in case I needed them. All clips are split.

I used a dental pick to pry up the clip for replacement but it still took nearly 20 minutes to get it to release. My fingers were hurting by the time I got it off. Be careful with the detent and spring in the elevation screw. It is very very small and can disappear really easily.
