If you feel the over priced V-tac add on rifle fills a need for you but away .

I find nothing about the viking tac add-on's or the trigger group to the mp15 carbine worth while spending the extra money for. But then I have never owned any factory assemble AR . I assemble my ar15's using select quality parts I want to use and save some money for a sub moa shooter . I have no interest in V-tac being anything special or better than many other part suppliers and that is what v-tac is. JP tac parts were personal add-on for Kyle Lamb , geissele super v Ttigger was the supplied trigger in the carbine , the jp or geissele matters little to me . I'm a hyperfire 2lb sa trigger trigger guy.

There were two M&P VTAC rifles over the years, both now long discontinued.
The first was SKU 811012 which featured a round JP handguard, flashlight holder, Surefire flash hider, JP trigger, VLTOR stock and perhaps some other accessories.
The second was SKU 811025 the VTAC II which used a VTAC branded handguard that may have been based on the Troy Alpha series. It had a Geissele Super-V trigger, VTAC Sling, VLTOR Imod stock.

If the one you are looking at has the JP trigger, it would be the first SKU. It was a cool rifle 15 years ago. There are lots of other AR parts and accessories introduced since and the AR market has evolved a lot in that time too.

I bought the first version (SKU 811012) back in 2011 or 2012. Ended up getting a great deal, so I jumped on it. I think it's an exceptional shooter. The JP Enterprise trigger is super light. Some would not prefer it for defense purposes. If the SHTF it's still my AR of choice. It's been incredibly reliable, not picky with ammo, and has been nicely accurate. I swapped out the handguard, grip, and added an EoTech. It usually sports the nice two point sling that it came with. I removed it for the pictures. Also my barrel is stamped 5.56 not .223. Not sure if it was the same for the Gen 2?

All M&P-15 barrels except the seldom made M&P-15I are chambered and marked 5.56. Only a model cataloged for International sales had .223 chambered and marked barrels. (Also excepting the .300 BLK's and ARC etc)

The original VTAC had a 1/7 twist carbine length gas chrome lined barrel.
The VTAC II had a 1:8 twist 5R rifling in a lightweight profile, mid length gas barrel with QPQ Armornite finish.
