I read the S&W warranty only applies to the original owner since 1989. Has anyone had them fix a gun that was made after 1989 even if you’re not the original owner? No issues, but I’d like to buy a used gun and have the option of having S&W fix it if I ever needed it. Guess I can’t have my cake and eat it too?

Back in the eighties they never charged me for any repairs, new or used. In recent years I've only had one gun repaired by them that i didn't buy new and they charged me a reasonable amount.
I was the third owner of a 642, they replaced it when the usual crack appeared in the crane, no questions asked even when I informed them of that fact.
