I've outgrown my current gun locker and I'm looking to upgrade in both size and security.

My budget is $1300.00 delivered to my door.

I'm currently considering a Cannon Scout Series S40 64 gun safe.

I'm looking for some recomendation, experiences, opinions, etc...

Both good and bad please.

Thanks.

Speaking only for myself, the things important to me in a safe are size, reliability of the lock, and fire protection. Understand, that locks only keep honest people honest. A safe is valuable to keep your family away from your guns and it may provide protection against a young punk looking for a quick score, a determined thief will get inside. Make sure it is bolted down.

I have a Cannon 48 gun safe. It was bought at TSC (Tractor Supply Co.) Mine is rated for 30 minutes for fire protection. Mine is similar to this but I don't have storage on the door. To me the door storage is good.

I purchased gun socks for many of my guns and I highly recommend it. It is hard to take guns in and out without a "click". My safe is located in the basement and so far I have no problems with the guns rusting. I have a goldenrod in there and I use a dehumidifier in the basement.

I have a Heritage Tradition which also came from Tractor Supply.
Like Jay I use a golden rod and socks on everything to prevent dings.I also installed a rope light around the perimeter with a switch right in front
Mine has a S&G battery powered lock. The lock is quick and easy to use and the battery is also easy to replace. The fire rating is very good at 90 minuets , which is the main reason why I wanted it.
If you are way out in the country you might want the best fire rating you can get, in town -not so much- since fire dept response time will be better.
The best advice I can give you is : Give your wife the best shelf and don`t even think about encroaching on it, then you can justify buying a bigger safe. You will be very happy with your new safe no matter which one you buy, they really do give peace of mind.

Buy now, because the prices keep going up.

I bought an old Browning 12 years ago. Recently i decided to buy myself an Amsec. I sold my old Browning for $500 more than i bought it for. So my Amsec was just about FREE.

If $1300 is your bottom line budget then I would seriously look at a used jewelry store safe. The finish won't be as "sexy" as most of the better gun safes, but the security, weight and burglar ratings will be MUCH better.

Here's why I bought my Liberty Residential Security Container:

The prospective thieves worked on this Liberty for 3 hours and never got in and never got any of the stuff contained in the safe. It also probably saved a bunch of other stuff in the house because they wasted so much time on the container.

I got a Liberty Fat Boy Jr. because the regular Fat Boy wouldn't fit through my door. I'm very happy with it.

You must also understand that for $1,300 you cannot buy a safe. What you are getting is classified as a Residential Security Container. A safe is rated to actually withstand much more punishment and keep the stuff safe. I know, it's a small point, but can make a difference to your insurance.
