I've never bought a gun at Gander Mountain because their prices were just too dang high...until today. Jr. called me from the local Gander Mountain around 4:00 p.m. this evening and asked where I was. I was about ten minutes from him and he told me I needed to come over there. When I got there they had something going I'd never seen. They brought in salespeople and guns from all over the country. The tables they had set up was almost a large as our local gunshow. There were several hundred guns of all types laid out on the tables. All were used guns. I saw several dealers I know making multiple purchases.
The salesman I dealt with was from Detroit. He said he was down here for the sale only and would be going back Monday because they were gonna sell ever thing they had laid out by Sunday evening. They were haggling and taking offers. I've never seen this at Gander Mountain. A fellow next to me picked up a cheap .22 and told me I need something cheap to shoot rats with in my chickenhouses. The marked price was only $40.00. He asked me what it was worth and I told him to offer $5.00 and see what happens. He did and the salesman said "make it $10.00 and it's yours. Dayum! He bought it.
One of the employees came out and dumped about ten Glock 22 police turn-ins on the table marked $299.00. They sold them all for $250.00 each in just a few minutes. There wasn't a lot there that I wanted, needed, or didn't already have. (as usual) Jr. picked up a S&W 1905 2nd change target model marked $299.00. (that seemed to be their favorite price on most of the stuff) I called David Carroll and got his expert advice. "buy it" Jr. got that one for $250 plus tax. Jr. likes military and German stuff. I found an early Luger commercial in 9mm that was marked $350.00 and showed it to Jr. He got it for half that. He's already run a clip through it off the back deck and it shoots fine.
There were some nice Smiths but I already had most of them. I was tempted to buy some more just to increase my net worth but Christmas is coming and I need to give a few presents to someone other than myself. Maybe my daughter can use another gun. I found a Remington 870 riot gun parked with walnut stocks. I can always use another riot gun to go with the dozen or so I already have. At $125.00 plus tax I just couldn't leave it there. It's a good thing too because I just traded one just like it for an Ithaca riot gun a couple of weeks ago and I had suffered a mild case of "traders remorse."
Jr. and I were gonna go to the Jackson show tomorrow after he gets off work but I think I'm just gonna go back to Gander Mountain instead.
