Sally Kellerman, Oscar-Nominated as ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan in ‘MASH,’ Dies at 84

Sally Kellerman, who was Oscar nominated for her supporting role as Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan in Robert Altman's "MASH" feature film, died Thursday in Woodland Hills, Calif. She was 84.

Her publicist Alan Eichler confirmed her death, and her daughter Claire added that she had been suffering from dementia for the past five years....

...Given her sexy, intriguing voice, the actress naturally did voice work: Her credits included 1985 feature "Sesame Street Presents: Follow that Bird" (Miss Finch), 1990 animated feature "Happily Ever After," ABC series "Dinosaurs" and FX series "Unsupervised"; she was also the voice behind Hidden Valley ranch dressing, Mercedes-Benz and Revlon.

Kellerman was also a singer, who signed a recording contract with Verve Records when she 18, though her first album, "Roll With the Feelin‍ '," was not recorded until 1972. Her second album, "Sally," was released in 2009. The actress also contributed songs to the soundtracks for "Brewster McCloud," "Lost Horizon," "Rafferty and the Gold Dust Twins" and "Boris and Natasha: The Movie," among others...​

She was very good. Under glass on a desk in my Army office was the picture of her getting out of the helicopter in MASH.

I loved her as the college professor and love interest to Rodney Dangerfield in Back To School. One of the best lines was when Rodney was trying to get a date with her and she kept making excuses saying "she had class".

In classic Dangerfield form, he finally gave up and said "well call me sometime when you have no class".

I remember Ms Kellerman casted as a 'heavy' in an early Hawaii Five-O episode, the original series. Her character went over a cliff in the end. Didn't seem to hurt her too much, she had MANY appearances over the years: acting, music/singing, voice-overs. R.I.P., Ms. Kellerman.

Not having thought about, my first reaction when I read about her death was "She couldn't have been 84."

I always enjoyed whatever character she played. She had a somewhat "offbeat" acting style that singled her out from other "pretty" actresses. She was INTERESTING ! .. Her being in anything was enough reason for me to give it a go. When she starred with Rodney Dangerfield in "Back to School" she was 49 and still VERY much a gorgeous woman !
