I will second the neti pot. I dive a lot, and had horrible allergies as a kid. When you are holding your breath, and 60ft down, the pressure on your sinuses can be pretty intense. And, the salt water infusion/ breathing a lot of salt mist makes your mucous dehydrated and very thick as your body tries to expel the excess salt.
A neti pot with warm water is fine. I also travel with a little blue squeeze bottle designed to clear infants' sinuses. Warm salted water in the squeezie, in the nostril, tilt back the head, and flush. VERY inexpensive and easy.
And, the 'Himalayan salt, ultra pure sea salt, salt from the center of the earth'...... mean nothing. Pass on them, and use clean table salt.
Its' made of pure.......... salt.
For a sinus infection or an abscess in your sinuses, I will flush for a day or two, and if that does not help measurably, I will make a solution of 5-10% hydrogen peroxide and 90-95% warm water and flush my sinuses with that. 2 times a day, no more is usually necessary. It kills the bacteria, and is not so aggressive as to leave your sinus passages raw.
I can't stress it enough; do not get excited to clear out all the germs and use a stronger solution. It will burn, foam up excessively, and you will shoot foaming snot water out of your face as your head rejects the peroxide.
Ask me how I know......
