long story so try to be patient.

10 month old samsung 40" top of line tv , extra thin wall hanger type , smart tv w/ 240 hz clear motion feature .
started 3-4 weeks ago shutting its self off & trying to turn back on . sometimes it would sometimes not . ALSO using the volume control ..! would shut the tv off , and it would be off & on several times and would usually come on and do ok for a while or even days without this problem surfacing !
have ALL NEW HOOK ups thru metro net ( it is a new provider in town which bought out accel plus , the old provider i was on . have computer service too thu same co. ... they are top notch , with total fiber optics , and ALL wiring & hook ups are new , in and outside connections )
note : this problem surfaced while still on accel plus , the old provider.
after having local repair tech out a few times , today was the first time they actually witnessed the problem ! it did it while he was here and he confirmed it simply had to be the tv, after doing some wiring/hook up checks .
he provided me with some info .... said he had seen some other samnug tv's with the same failure ! something he named hdmi-cec setting . samsung HAS been called and are in the process of getting a repair ticket to a localized authorized repair person and i will be called in 2-3 days to set the appt time up ( the holiday may delay it some )
when i mentioned the hdmi thing , they said the part would be with the tech. , like possibly they HAVE had this problem more than a few times b 4 !! the local tech said the whole circut board ? where the hdmi cord plugs int was probably bad and need replaced .

some questions
1 the tv shutting itself off& on so many times has me concerned! is there possible damage to the set ? !
2 should i ask for a new new replacement tv ??
3 has anyone else had this problem with a samsung or any tv that u have ?

as i am typing this , the tv shut its self off and back on numerous times !
love the tv and the picture quality with this new provider is top notch , but its driving me insane .
thanks in advance rock

If the Tech can get the TV working properly I don't believe you're going to convince Samsung to send you a new one.

I'm sure you've checked the electrical outlet, surge protector, and all the connections. As crazy as it may sound, you might try to removing the batteries from the remote control.

Good luck.

ok ....

yes ..got the store receipt and all paperwork.

have taken the batteries out of the samsung remote , to be sure the signal wasnt being " jumped " between it & the metro net remote ...still had the problem . all wiring has been checked & re-checked .

if samsung can fix the problen & it STAYS fixed , ok. that does not concern me as much as potential damage done to the set the way it has acted up.
that may be unfounded but it does concern me .

It's a bad capacitor on the motherboard. I have a 4 year old Samsung that started doing the exact same thing in my basement.

In your case you should still be within the warranty period, so give Samsung a call and see what they want to do.

We have a Samsung that's about four years old, I would shut it off before going to bed and it would come on by it's self about 2 AM, it hasn't done it in a long time. :D

The TV going on and off won't affect longevity. TV's are made to go on and off thousands of times in their lifetime (or tens of thousands if you have small kids). Once your problem is fixed you should be good to go.

We bought a Samsung BluRay Home Theater for about $500. Center channel would drop out. Sent to Samsung 4 times over the year warranty and it kept coming back no problem found. I had to pay $35 for the extended warranty so the third party would replace it after the one year. They sent us a brand new Samsung to replace it which lists at about $350 and has to be rebooted all the time because it will freeze up.
I won't buy a Samsung again.

could be a bad power supply or a bad outlet<try another outlet>

or worst case scenario power boad is bad and you will have to have it warrantied.

Speaking of warranty.... you mentioned that the TV was 10 months old. If you used a credit card you may have an additional year beyond Samsung 1yr warranty.

I no longer buy TV's from any place other than Costco. They have all the major brands (including Samsung) and have a warranty that exceeds anything in writing. They are pretty much like Dillon and always strive to make the customer happy. At least that has been my experience. Bought 5 TV's from them over the last few years and all have been at great prices and great quality. So far - - so good.

TV manufacturers usually give a 1 year warranty. Costco gives you a second year for free, and if you use the American Express Card, they extend it another year. So you get three years free.

First, Get it fixed using the warranty. But Samsungs are known to have this problem. My B-in-law replaced this capacitor using a youtube video to walk him through the replacement. Now mine is occasionally having the same on/off issue that will eventually need to be fixed.
