Saw on the news last night that many people become sick because they touch grocery carts, things around the office, etc., then handle their cell phones, which are used next to one's face.

Some official at AT&T recommended sanitizing your phone, but didn't say how.

Is it okay to use those wet wipes like Wet Ones? These are for cleaning your hands when you eat a hamburger, etc.

Will the alcohol in the wipes damage the material in phones? Is there some special cleaner for them?

The talking head quoted the AT&T guy as saying that cleaning your phone can significantly reduce the risk of flu and other diseases.

I prefer taking a shot of Wild Turkey before using and after using my phone. And after shopping, opening doors, touching carts, getting my change from the cashier, when I arrive home a double shot of 151 proof Rum.

It sure beats sanitizing.:D

Texas Star, IMHO we do way too much sanitizing. I have found the best way to not catch the flu is to not take those dang shots. Stopped taking the shots 20+ years ago and have not had the flu since. Even though my grandson had the type A 2 weeks ago and the granddaughter 10 days ago, I have not got the bug even though I kept them overnight a day after my grandson got sick.
I still share my tater chips with the granddogs and pat them on the head. Didn't kill me when I was a kid and hasn't hurt me any now. Fresh air does more than all the hand sanitizer and wipes put together

I wipe my Samsung Convey cell phone (a flip-phone) regularly with a paper towel moistened with 70% isopropyl alcohol...it hasn't harmed the finish, or otherwise damaged the phone, yet.

Kills 99.9% leaving that 0.1% now immune strain free reign with no competition, and thus with over use we have wonderfull things like MRSA. Are phones dirty? you betcha... do a culture on agar, its enlightening... But the vast majority of times your body has built up an immune response to them so there is no real issue, your white blood cells are smarter than you think. The issue come from over using sanitizers and antibiotics which don't allow us to be exposed to them and build up our immune systems and create resistant strains. Whoever first said what doesn't kill you makes your stronger was right from a pathogen point of view.

Back on topic. To answer your question bleach wipes, make sure they're not too moist so the liquid comes off and goes places its not supposed to. Also go easy on the sanitizing.

I believe that the easy way to do this is to keep your hands clean. The fewer germs on your hand the less chance of transfer to you phone or anything else.

Better yet stay off the damn cell phone. Do any of us really need to be in constant contact 24/7?

That's exactly my procedure. It's in line with FDA GMP for sanitizing.

When I'm forced to go to Walmart and I need to use a shopping cart,I always wipe the handle with the sanitary wipes they provide .Not only for germs and viruses, but for liquids or solids that may be on them. When in Walmart, just look at the people. It's scary to think where some of their hands have been.

God gave me an immune system for a reason. It seems to work as designed. I tend to let it do so.

Since I'm the only one who ever handles my cell phone, any germs that are on it, came off me, so they're already there in the first place. Why worry about them?

While I was in my wally world, a woman in a near by isle was holding up a piece of clothing, she sneezed ,never made an attempt to cover her mouth, only turned her head and "let her fly".

UV light would likely be your best bet if worried about it. Avoids liquids getting into the phone...though many phones are increasingly water resistant. If you do not have a UV sterilizing device sunlight will do.

I have heard that in ancient times, people were healthier because they did not bathe every day, but only once a week or so. Allegedly bathing removes the good bacteria from the body and makes one more susceptible to germs.

Of course it also makes one more "stinky" too.:D

Its overblown. How many other things do you touch and then get near your face? Open a public door then scratch your nose. Go to a restaurant and was your hands but then touch the counter or table or plate that the waiter brought. Before cell phones have you ever wiped down the family phone before every use?

Bit to much germaphobia goin on lately (just like PC).

I wondered why I 'walk like an Egyptian'.

That should do it

Sanitizing phones? Try picking up a TV remote in a hotel room. Do you think they wash that cover on the bed each time? Or steam clean the rug? That little "sanitized for your protection" strap on the comode doesn't quite do it for you when you think of other stuff now does it??? :D
