A few months ago I picked up a Savage 30-30/20ga combo.
I've been running some rounds through it and trying different shot loads.
The Hornady Leverevolution rounds do pretty well out of it with a 2.5" group at 100yds and the shot barrel centering slightly low and right by about 3"at 30yds compared to the rifle groups.
This was after adjusting the sights some. Next will be to try to shim the shotgun barrel to bring it in line with the rifle sights.
I think that can be done pretty easily, so I hope to end up with a handy iron sighted camp gun and truck gun.
So far, its been a fun back to the roots project.
Turkeys and deer beware!

I have several 24's and one is a 30-30/20 combo. why not adjust the rifle sights to the shotgun point of impact. I don't use the rifle sight with the shotgun barrel, (I might try with slugs) but with the Modified choke that should be about 24" with 7.5 shot and 3 inches it wouldd still s dead rabbit! Ivan

I forgot to mention, I had most of a box of Remington Accelerators from a Savage 340. I tried them in the 24 and they were about 1 1/4" @ 100 yards (same as the 340). While not hyper accurate, they're good for ground hog to about 200 yards. I also made Medium velocity loads with a cast 117 FN bullet at about 2100 fps, this was good for small game and varmints @ 100yards. Enjoy your 34, Ivan

The reason I'm trying to get the shotgun barrel lined up is turkeys.
That head is pretty small after 30yds. Since Va. Now has an overlapping deer and winter turkey season, I figured that gun would do the trick.
I was caught by surprise last year when I was out with my 94 and some turkeys strolled by.

In Ohio, we only have shotgun season on turkeys, You Cannot Have a Rifle on you while turkey hunting. I know that when my B-I-L was stationed at Ft. Bragg, in the early 80's, they could use their M-16 with a 5 round mag and sporting ammo, there was a required state turkey permit also. None of the guys knew anything about turkey calling so it was a wash out! But, that lead me to believe that all the Southern states allowed turkey rifle season. My Mistake! If you have the scope base (some were built in, others had a pate the bases mount to-like mine) a zero magnifying scope or red dot works well. I read of a man using a red dot on a Valmet combo gun (shotgun over rifle) to shoot trap, and beat the club champion by several birds! Enjoy your 34 and Good Hunting! Ivan
