Any one familiar w/above mentioned sharpening steel?
While picking away at some rainy day projects came across one deep in the bowels of my shop. Don't remember buying it, but don't remember more and more these days.
3/16" thick x 1" wide x 7" long, on one end the last 1.5" tapers down in thickness to a point which has a bevelled chisel appearance. Other end has 2 holes in line for a lanyard. Seems to be a well made tool, what little I found on-line indicates an early 70's manufacture based on markings. Came w/a sheath but no sign of it.
Has a tiny bit of rust, advice on dealing with it?
Tks, Kevin

Great knife!

A bit of steel wool and WD40 is what I use.

The steel actually pivoted out of the leather sheath, and you could
use the leather as a handle while sharpening. I believe one edge
was coarser than the other. I've used it for splitting kindling.

I have one like that, only mine is a Gerber 'Sportsman's Steel' ...I don't think that they are made any more and some are collectable. Mine has a groove down one side for sharpening fishing hooks, and the leather can be used for stropping the final finish.
