....scope moved...S&W.460...Leupold Scope and mount...all factory Leupold stuff. Any recommendations for a mount that will hold scope still when the hand cannon cuts loose?
I used a Fat Wrench...I actually applied more torque than called for..don't remember the specs.
I have only recently bought a ring lapping setup.
Think that would stop the movement?
I figured this stock setup just isn't designed to hold the .460Magnum.

If the ring is against the scope turret it will not go any farther......

Some mounts use a 3rd ring for more clamping surface but that is not an option for you. Lapping the rings for full contact , adding some rosin or a chemical adhesive between the scope and rings may help.

That is a lot of G's you are trying to tame so do whatever works for your set up.

I didn't know if it would damage the scope being against the turret.
Ashlander...I like the idea of one layer of tape...and lapping...and rosin...It is the most fun revolver I own!

Those standard duty 2 screw leupold rings are not going to be able to handle the 460's brutal recoil. You really should add a 3rd ring. I bought a set of Warne Maxima rings and when sufficiently torqued beyond spec my Burris 3-12x stays put on my 12" xvr.

I use the Warne's on my heavy recoiling Encore handguns and run 3 or 4 rings on them. I'd get a Weaver style base and some Warne rings and put the 3rd ring on it.

Thank you all.
Road_Clam, and DD357...I think indeed I am going to look into a Weaver style base and Warne rings.
Thanks again to ya'll.

l have a Leupold 4x w/Leupold rings on my 460PC 10 1/2''. My rings have 2 screws each like yours...Never a problem with the scope moving because l tightened them to begin with. After firing first 10 rounds l tightened them again. Checking scope ring tightness is part of my drill while cleaning my 460 after each range session.
0ne item l DONT use to tighten those Torx screws are those little ''L'' shaped wrenches that come with Leupold ring/bases..Get a good pair of drivers like Excelite or see what the guys at the gunshop are putting on scopes with
