I hope I am not asking a totally redundant question but if I mount my Bushnell 3-9X32 (dovetail) on my 15-22 it is better to use the high or low profile picatinny ring? I presume it will require the 30MM size ring? I have seen pricing on line from $6.50 to several hundred dollars. Needless to say my $50.00 scope will see something on the low side. My eyes just need some extra zoom.

Also, congrats Phil.......:)

I would suggest it may depend on how you shoulder/hold the rifle. I you need that extra zoom, then a higher ring might be better for you. You can also find rings at Amazon or Cheaper Than Dirt for under $10 a set.

Unless its an odd-ball, your Bushnell 3-9x40 is most likely a 1" tube, not a 30mm. I've got two 3-9xXX Bushnell's and they are both 1" tubes.

Generally you need Ultra High rings on AR's so that it mounts the scope high enough so you don't have to scruch down on the stock. I like Warne Ultra High rings with detachable levers but they run about $100 a set. But when it comes to optics and mounts you get what you pay for.
