Scope???

I was wondering what the best scope would be for the S&W M&P 15-22. I purchased a red dot at a gun show and I am not impressed with it. Anyone with experience good and bad with different scopes?

cheap, but does its job.

Was 34.83 when i bought it last July, looks like it went up about 10 dollars

My son and I use ours for plinking and hunting. We have Nikon Prostaff rimfire on ours. They are 3x9x40 with the bdc reticle. I also have another 1522 with a Nikon p22 2x7x32 scope also. It has the bdc reticles as well. I think natchezss.com has these scopes on sale. The prostaff was $149 and the p22 was $179. I don't know how much you want spend but they are nice. If you check out my promag magazine review, you can see the p22. I also talk about the differences in the two scopes. I hope this helps.

I just got my 15 22 on Saturday 2/2 Also got a Leapers 3-9x32 for $78. After zeroing it in about 15 minutes I am shooting about quarter size groups at 25 yds Too soon to tell how well it stays zeroed but so far so good. I also just ordered a 1/2 in. riser because it's a bit low for these old eyes.

I too have a Nikon ProStaff 3-9 and it is a great scope and doesn't break the bank.

I am waiting for my Nikon Prostaff to arrive. I plan on mounting the TRS-25 red-dot on a 45 degree mount for quick access shooting. For longer and more precise shooting the Prostaff will be used.

Main reason for using the scope is my old eyes need all the help they can get. Also the red-dot cover more of the target the longer the distance get and I can not zero in on a spot.

On the 1522s with the prostaff scopes, we have a sightmark red dot sight mounted on a 45 degree mount. It works perfect for the charging squirrel that comes out from behind a tree at 10 to 20 yards!

Count me as another with the Leapers 3x9. I am very pleased for the money. I put a 1/2 inch riser on it as well.

I just got my Leapers 4-12 compact today in the mail. Very pleased with it so far. I will zero it tomorrow and give a report. But first glance, it is a very solid scope with a lot of features found on higher ends glass, which includes parralax adjustment which is necessary imo. I will likely put a 1/2" riser on it as well.

For me the Nikon P 22 is the way to go for price, quality, easy use. I know its a little expensive but in optics you get what you pay for most of the time.

As aldeady noted, th P-22 is not cheap, however, I don't think you will regret buying it. Buy once and enjoy for a long time. I wouldn't trade mine for any other scope. And the Spot On ballistic calculator is really nice, and free.

P-22 is a nice scope, great glass, but no parralax adjustment. At least the parralax is set at 50 yards so that helps a little for the 22lr. Also wish it had a bigger bell than 32mm.

Ahhh, good call, or the Vortex Crossfire II. I have a 6-18x44 on a Colt, awesome scope for the money. About the same price as P-22, but much better all around imo. the 4-12x40 would be a good fit on the 15/22 and has parralax adjustment, plus unlimited lifetime warranty.

Well got a chance to sight in my Leapers 4-12x44 and I could not be happier with it. Great little scope for a mere $100. One thing it does lack is eye relief, but for a rimfire, who the heck cares. Very clear, solid clicks, turrets, 30mm tube, mil dot reticle, side parralax adjustment, flip open lens caps, illuminated reticle, detatchable bases with rings. They could easily charge $200 for this bugger.

There have been quite a few good replys. Remember the 15-22 isn't a tackdriver,it's great for plinking. With a scope,stick with the name brands and remember too,you get what you pay for. Cheap is usually cheap. But I wouldn'y mount a scope on it that costs more than the 15-22 either.

I went with a kinda cheapie NcStar illuminated scope. I bought it a few years ago. Held up pretty good.
