I don't know about other parts of the Country, but Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace are all but impossible to get. I have been trying for the last 3 years and sort of gave up. I just walked into the store today and there were only these 3 left on the shelf - they are in my house now! :D

The fellow at the store told me they used to only sell to ABC Liquors. I was in a Total Wine and More store and they told me ABC lost their exclusivity recently. Even when I went to ABC, they never had any in stock.

Oh yea, the Wild Turkey 101 and the Elijah Craig was just to balance out the box weight for carrying purposes - lol! :D

Needles to say, I am a Happy Camper now. I'll bring the EJ to my friends house tonight as we are invited over for a BBQ. That's easy to get and still a quality bourbon. :)

My son is a big whiskey collector, he has 100 or so bottles in his collection. When I visit him in Indiana we try to visit the local whiskey/cigar bar at least once. I no longer smoke cigars and whiskey is wasted on me, I have a beer. My son trades back and forth with other collectors to enhance his collection, some of the rarer stuff is worth big money.

When I spent part of my "misspent youth" as a grad student in London (UK not Canada) there used to be a pub about 200 yds from the Cutty Sark in Greenwich. It claimed to have (back in the middle 1960s) over 150 Scotch "bottles" attached to standard "Optics" set for a single measure. I managed to reach 45 before moving from Univ London to the University of Sussex and then to the US. On infequent trips back to the "Mother Country" I was known to try to increase that number. Where I come from Buffalo Trace is a mid (maybe even low end) bourbon. In Western NYs bigger retailers thats a $24 bottle sometimes with Premier Card. When it was first introduced in our area maybe 10-12 yrs ago I was buying it for $16.99 750ml. I’ll take the Wild Turkey 101 all day everyday.

I would have to agree with your assessment. That said, I like changing it up rather than drinking the same bourbon all the time. As you can see in my picture I also bought a Wild Turkey 101 1.75.

There are many here in our new development that go gaga for the Buffalo Trace but it's very hard to find here. I guess the scarcity of acquiring a bottle makes it taste that much better. It's also a good party bourbon that won't break the bank.

One of my personal fav's is Jack Daniels Frank Sinatra Select - served neat.

With this stupid port strike going I went down and stocked up on Scotch today. And Gin and French brandy. Be prepared, as the BSA tells us.

well done sir... all solid choices.. I have been a bourbon and rye guy since dad rubbed my gums while I was teething... I approve

This thread reminds me of our absent comrade Absalom. He was well versed in whiskey (and MANY other things). The photos of his whiskey shelves were a feast for the eyes.

Just bought 3 add'l 1.75 bottles of George Dickel 12. I was concerned because I had been down to 5. Now, at least I have some breathing (or sipping) room.;)

The funny thing around here is when Buffalo Trace was introduced to our market people thought it was made here in Buffalo NY. I had a nephew tell me all about it. Rather than man splain it to people I just rolled my eyes and kept moving. I’ve learned that most people don’t realize what makes bourbon, bourbon. Or where it comes from.

When my son still lived in Chicago he frequently shopped at the local Binny's liquor store and he became friends with the manager. Even though my son moved to Indiana he still stays in contact with him. He call's my son if something comes into the store that he thinks my son might be interested in. I am my son's "Whiskey Mule", I've stopped to pick up whiskey for him on my way to visit him in Indiana.

seems like the place/time to ask. Any inexpensive bourbons able to hold their own with many of those in the mid range pricing?

Love the caramel and vanilla notes if it matters.

Jeffers Creek is surprisingly good (to me) despite its low price.

Your bourbon shelf looks just like mine. The only one you have that I don't is Whistle Pig. I keep meaning to try it but I always forget to buy a bottle. How is it?

The Whistle Pig Smokestock (Treager Edition) is just OK. It's nothing that I would buy again. Bourbon and cigars....I don't care how much or how little they cost, if you like it, you like it regardless of price. :D

Boys the easiest way to get the Eagle Rare and Blantons is just go to Buffalo Trace Distillery on the days they put it out and pick up a bottle. Then you are in Bourbon jail for 90 days then you can do it all over again. We are about 45 minutes away from them and if you ever get a chance to go its an awesome tour and it cost nothin even for the sampling.
