SCORE at the Liquor Store this morning!!

seems like the place/time to ask. Any inexpensive bourbons able to hold their own with many of those in the mid range pricing?

Love the caramel and vanilla notes if it matters.
If you haven't tried Buffalo Trace, you should. It sells here for under $40, and in a blind taste test at my house, it beat bourbons three times as expensive..

With this stupid port strike going I went down and stocked up on Scotch today. And Gin and French brandy. Be prepared, as the BSA tells us.

I did the same thing yesterday even though I was already stocked up for the last hurricane that went to the east of us.

I'll only have a drink a few times a year now days.

Back in my younger days, I'd go thru a gallon of Vodka a week at home, not counting closing the bar every night.

Always hated the taste of alcohol, but loved the buzz. Vodka and orange juice was what I drank in the past, but I found out a 50/50 mix of Grey Goose and pineapple juice is most tasty.

I've had a opened bottle of Grey Goose in my kitchen cabinet next to the sink for around 3 years. Being stored in a cool dark place, would it still be good to drink?

Buffalo Trace is pretty easy to come by around here. It's palatable.
Whistle Pig 10 year Rye is pretty darn tasty.
Old Forester seems to be consistently good, I've had the 1870, 1910, and 1926.
My current favorite is a local Single Malt by Westland Distillery. they're kinda proud of their prices, but a recent release was rated #3 whiskey in the world. They weren't wrong.

Some of my fav's are (in no particular order):

Michter's, Weller 12, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Wild Turkey 101, Elijah Craig, Jack Daniels Sinatra Select, Jack Daniels Single Barrel Select, Woodford's Double Oaked, Woodford's Reserve regular, Eagle Rare, Basil Hayden, Buffalo Trace, Bib & Tucker, Widow Jane, some of the George Dickel line, 1792, Larceny, Blanton's, Angel's Envy, Old Forester, Four Roses, and a few others I am forgetting.

I do not particularly care for Maker's Mark, Bulleit, most of the Jim Beam labels, Knob Creek, Bookers, and although not technically Bourbons, I don't care much for Japanese Whisky either - at least the ones I have tried so far.

Many of those are my favorites too, especially Woodford Double Oaked and Jack Daniels Sinatra. No love from me for Buffalo Trace. But I do like Marker's Mark, the special selections.
Another favorite is Rabbit Hole Heigold.
My current favorite sipper is Templeton Rye 6 yr. Produced in the small Iowa town of Templeton. The distillery has an interesting history going back to Prohibition days, currently only available in a small area of the Midwest but they are expanding.

I was a member of one of those mail order liquor clubs back when Buffalo Trace first came out. I don't remember which club if it's even still around. Anyhow, I ordered a case of the Buffalo Trace, finished long ago. I thought it was OK, but nothing more. I won't pay gourmet prices for it. Hey, but maybe the've improved it since then. I haven't had anymore.

I have some Makers Mark but it's mainly my go to at a bar or restaurant. Most carry it and it's a safe bet.

My favorite cheap booze is Jim Beam Black. It's pretty decent for the price. It's a large step up from standard Beam IMHO.

My collection is probably considered pretty good size but I can't really say I currently have a favorite premium. I like that 1792 for a upper middle grade. But like I said I can't pick a top line fav. I thought the WhistlePig was good but not any better than others. The bottle is still mostly still full.

I guess my flavor profile is smokey and just a little sweet. 86 to 90 proof. I do not like the double oaked profile. The WhistlePig is 100 so maybe I should add a splash of water and try it again. Templeton Rye I have and it's pretty good but mine is only aged 4 years. I generally drink decent or better bourbons neat.
