After all this time, I just had my first glass of GlenLivet.
I've drank few before, but this is definitely different.

It is pretty good. I've since switched to bourbon and have a new bottle of this:

I may just crack the seal tonight!

I loved Black Label but had to give it up.
Then I Loved Gin but had to give it up.
Good Vodka was, but had to give it up.
This Marriage stuff is not all it's cracked-up to be...:D:confused:

Thank God they still make good BEER!!!!!!

I think I need to restock my cabinet and basement and gunsafe.
We never know when the supply trains might be effected by events beyond our control

Clearly, some of you prefer the peaty or smoky Scotches. I think they turn a lot of people off of Scotch.

If I'd only drunk Johnny Walker, Cutty Sark, or J&B, I wouldn't like Scotch.

The highland malts used in The Glenlivet, Chivas Regal, etc. are much nicer.

I've never acquired a taste for scotch... It all tastes like "dirt water" to me. I've tried quite a few brands and it is all lost on me.

I'm more of a Makers Mark bourbon kinda guy...

Welcome to the world of single malts. :) Once you've found what you like, you'll never go back to Johnnie Walker Red. There's an amazing range of flavor that, IMHO, makes bourbon pretty much one dimensional (and I like the occasional bourbon)

If you like the Glenlivet, here's a list of others that you might like:
Glenmorangie Original - light, sweet, my wife's favorite
Glenfiddich 12 - a little crisper than Glenlivet
Dalwhinnie 15 - just a touch of smoke in this one (one of my favorites)
Macallan 10 Fine Oak - light, oaky (like some Chardonnays)

If you want to try something a little more complex, these sherry-finished single malts are good. These are definitely sweeter than Glenlivet.
Balvenie Doublewood 12
Aberlour 12 Double Cask
Glenfiddch 15
Macallan 12
Glenfarclas 12
Balvenie Caribbean Cask (one of my favorites)
Monkey Shoulder - This is a blend of three single malts, which isn't bad at all.

Finally, if you want to try something with just a touch of peat and smoke:
Highland Park 12
Bunnahabhain 12

And my current favorite, Talisker 10, that's got definite peat and smoke, but not overpowering.

Here's a neat graphic that lays out the different range of single malts in terms of flavors. You'll find Glenlivet 12 on the right side just above the "Light Rounded" label.

Bushmills 10 or 15 yr Single Malt

Technically not Scotch as it is made in Ireland. But give it a try, it's my favorite "Scotch".

I loves me some Scotch. Dewars for power drinking and any one of a numbe of single malts depending on my mood.As far as Gin there is only one-Hendriks.

I think Single Malt Scotch is very much over rated and I have had many, many of them. In my old age I have settled into Johnnie Walker Black Label. It's a blend, very complex and reasonably affordable.

From time to time I have my go to in Bourbon, Vodka, Gin and Rum.

J&B is a good all around bar drink.
Single malts are my favorite--depending on the mood.
If you offer me scotch I don't ask what kind.
I also like burbons.
I will rarely drink anything except over ice---maybe a water backer--though scotch and soda are not bad--especially when you have a cold.
Other than that--I don't drink as I am a Baptist.
Blessings

I was gifted a bottle of Balvenie DoubleWood 12 at my retirement party, and I'm learning to appreciate it ;)

I am an Islay Single Malt fan - Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Caol Isla.

Johnnie Walker is a blend - could change components every year to make it taste the same.

The risk with all single malts, especially single barrel, is that they change as a new barrel comes along (think single barrel Jack Daniels as a comparison - many are great but there is the random one that just downright needed to be thrown away).

I've grown to love some that can't be bought anymore -

Friends tell me that 4 roses single barrel is very good.

I am a Dewers white label fan for my daily evening drink. But when I want to treat myself I keep a selection of Single Malts. I don't think I have ever drank any Islay Malts I didn't like, regardless of the maker. Lagavulin is the one all others are measured against, (it aught to be, at nearly $100 a 5th). But at a "tasting" at the Liquor store last week I found Bunnahabhain, also an Islay malt, but very smooth and muted peat flavors. Very nice. I took a bottle home to add to my collection. One real "sleeper" if you have a Trader Joe's store in your vicinity try the "Islay Storm", it's only $21.50 which for a Single Malt is cheap, and it rates up there with $50 Malt's.

I don't care for GlenLivet, it tastes more like Bourbon than Scotch. Try
the best, Johnnie Walker Black Label.

Nice.. But if you get a chance.. Try the Johnnie Walker DOUBLE Black:D:D:D:D

Now if you Really want to try something special, try the MACALLAN Cask Strength, single malt.. Aged in Sherry Oak Casks and bottled at original cask strength.
58.6 % Alc..Vol>>> 117.2 PROOF.. smooooth:D It explodes in your mouth.. Truly a sipping Scotch.. :D:D

HUGE fan of Single Malts here! Had the pleasure of attending a mass tasting in Chicago years ago and got to sample Glenlivet 30 yr. Smoother than a baby's' backside!

Some others to try:

Balvenie Doublwood
Dalhmore Cigar Malt Reserve.
Glenmorangie Sherry Cask

For a cold day

On one of those cold wet days where your hands feel like talons try a mix of two shots Drambuie and one shot of Laphroaig its about warmth not taste as Ralphie says.
