-What can I say? I love my SD40 VE! I also bought the .40 because the shelf were pretty much always stocked with that caliber, but the 9mm ammo was always empty. can't go wrong with either one if you have the ammo...

As long as you paid retail or less...you did great. I see a few lgs by me that charge 30 to 100 over msrp, just kills me.
Trigger takes getting used to. Put a few hundred down range before you change a thing.

I paid the same price as the Smith and Wesson web sight If I knew that I would have tried to talk him down. But it was an impulse last minute buy.And a Smith and Wesson:D

I think you did just fine. Smiths are definitely addictive. Be happy. When you start at the top there's no place to go but down. I just shot my new SD9VE today. Box stock except for me polishing the feed ramp. I was shocked at how well it printed my cast bullet loads shooting at 50 feet. I'm sure you will be pleased with your new 40.

When you look at the sale price of other polys the SD's are a total steal! ;)

I'm getting ready to buy a SD40VE...for the same reason, I can find .40 ammo just about everywhere. A local shop has the SDVEs for $322 (both 9mm and .40s) and they are no longer on sale at Academy...their regular price is $319, but they don't have any in stock anywhere in the DFW area (according to my local Academy.) I sure wanted to buy one while they were on sale for $289, but they sold out, and they didn't get any more...and they don't give rain checks (which sucks.)

-Every now and then some local shops will run them on sale for $299.99. When I bought mine they were asking $329.99 for it. Out the door with tax it was $351.44. Still a pretty good deal in my opinion.

for the price its a great gun, many people (including me) have had some fail to feed issues in the first 200-300 rounds. polish the feed ramp with a dremmel. mines got 5000-6000 now down the pipe and it still functions flawlessly at this point. trigger is heavy, like a DA revolver. takes some getting used to. if you are shooting low i assure you it is not the gun. get used to the trigger

my LGS ran a sale $279 out the door. thats when i got my sd40ve, 3 days later went and got the 9. dont use the 9 much outside of the range. my sd40ve is my EDC

since i have gotten a sd9ve and a SD40 (not VE, melonite slide and night sight)

The SD40VE is a GREAT gun. I've had mine a few years now and I could not be more happier for the cost and performance. I added some APEX goodies to mine, and it moved the gun into a much higher league of comparative firearms. LOVE IT.

Are they a good gun for ccw? I should have done more research before I purchased this

i carry mine daily as my EDC. i use both IWB/OWB and a shoulder holster

i have a galco maiami classic shoulder rig
blackhawk serpa OWB
targus IWB

i usually carry 2 spare mags. i have 8 mags total. my carry mags have been through the paces and deemed reliable enough to be an EDC mag.

you will love your SD much like many of us do
