Found this USED at a Pawn Shop this afternoon & when I say USED that's just a term for Pre-Owned as the Pistol is 100% NEW
Paid $284.99 & Only came with the extra magazine
It's so clean & unused there isn't a mark or scratch anywhere on the pistol, barrel, inside or even a scratch on the followers or feed ramp. I Swear It's New..
The striker & catch don't even have a scratch & appeared to never have been oiled or cleaned or Shot Ever
I Have a Question for more experienced SD/Sigma Owners = What Did the VE stand for on some of these pistols?
I Found a Holster in my Holster Box that is Perfect, It's a Leather Gould & Goodrich for a Full Size Heckler & Koch USP
Looks to be the Next Addition to the Polymer S&W Clan

The Rural King store in my area had these on clearance when I got mine, $279 + tax. picked up the 9 and the 40. Already had the Black/Silver 9 & 40 SDVE. They make these in Green and Gray also. At some point I may pick up a set of each. They are a great, reliable pistol, never had an issue with any of them. :-)

I believe VE stands for Value Edition.

I believe VE stands for Value Edition.

I thought it stood for Victory over Europe, producing a glockclone for $199.99 (Very short sale) out the door. Now they are selling for $339.99 in NE Florida.

Geoff
Who bought his SW9VE an earlier model with slimmer grip, for $289.99 on sale.

This is a Christmas Gift for Myself, I didn't NEED it but WANTED it..
Passed on the Glock 19X sitting right beside it..
PRICE was the factor..
It Has Zero Wear except from hand cycling..

Congratulations. I haven't seen one in FDE for years now.

I believe VE stands for Value Edition.

Value Enhanced, actually. Prior to the release of the SW9/40VE there was the SW9/40E in which the E stood for Enhanced because it was an upgrade over previous models which lacked any grip texture, then they released a reduced price version of the E model with a propriety rail and bare stainless steel with the VE prefix.

Thanks Forte SW
So they have been The Sigma, The SW9, The SD9VE & The SD9
It's a Great Looking Gun for the Money$$
Anyway of dating it without the box?
S&W has the FDE & Gray on their website but no ODG

Awesome! You got lucky with that find. Those "budget" S&W's are really anything but. They are great performers. ;)

You could contact then via chat/e-mail requesting a DoB, just give them the Serial Number and they can look it up, that's how I found out when my used SW40VE was made.

There was also a SW9VE back some years ago. Think about the time of "Gulf War II." They was a model called the "Allied Forces" model (rather that was official or not, I have no idea). It had a black slide and frame. Very good looking gun. A number of them were issued to Iraqi (and/or Afgan) police units, so the story went. Made sense at the time anyway. They were also available on the market here also. It had a black slide/black body. Good looking gun. I had one, but sold it to a fellow who was starting a job as a security guard, and needed an inexpensive 9mm handgun.

It was available in the standard SS/black also. It was eventually replaced with the SD9VE. Again, I have no read idea what changes were made, but if you ever see an SW9VE, it does look somewhat different from today's gun.

I think they were available in a "kit" with a flashlight and pocket knife. I've still got the light/knife. Still have the same battery in the light, but it's not like it gets used a lot.

From what I have read on the internet from a S&W Press Release
SD Stands For Self Defense
The SD evolved from The Sigma Series Pistol that came before it
The SD9VE was introduced in 2012 = Self Defense Value Enhanced
In The Press Release it said the VE had a Stainless Barrel & Slide or they meant Satin Finish Stainless Steel where as the Blued one like the one I found has Armornite finish over Stainless?? Will try a Magnet on the slide & barrel & see
In This Link it shows the SD9 as Having a Stainless Steel Slide & Barrel Too? Maybe they where Carbon Steel @ One Time & Changed OR??
SD | Smith & Wesson
I will also note that the SD9VE without fiber optic sights cost $6 less than SD9 Here--->Pistols | Smith & Wesson
MSRP is $395
Here's a page that shows all the current SD Series but I have also seen one that's frame was Robin's Egg Blue which is more than Likely a Lipsey Special Edition whos frame has been DuraCoated/Painted

Academy Sports also had a custom version of the SD 9 and 40 with a front night site and a gray or green lower.

The "custom" guns were about $50 higher than their regular SD9s.

Geoff
Who notes their "close out" gun deals are good, but know your prices going in.

I didn't know the pricing on the SD9 Friday, BUT knew that was a Decent Deal @ $285, I did get them to knock $15 Off but that was only 5%
Didn't even have a Cell Phone with Me, As We usually price check everything we intend to buy while I am standing there
I will find out the Birth Date & Assume it is a current production or it has been stored away without even being touched
Been Looking on GunBroker @ a few SD9 FDEs & the Price I paid is just about right
About the same price of a Taurus G3 & IMO a Much more rugged unit

When I lubed it up with TW-25B I removed the striker & it was "As New"
There wasn't even any residue in the channel when I wiped it out with a fresh Q-Tip, It also had zero lubrication

You Have to also Understand that the SD9 Shield 9 2.0 & 380EZ are replacements for $800-$1000 HKs that now sit in their cases locked in a safe in my basement

When I went out to the Grocery this morning the Shield was slipped into the pocket of my leather coat

The SD9 won't go out to the car until I fire a couple hundred threw it & know I can trust it with my life

I loaded up the magazines & noted that the white followers have zero marks or powder & the magazine springs etc. are new when I wiped them out, The magazines look stainless but think they are chrome plated carbon steel
Here's a photo of the white followers with flash & the Gould & Goodrich Leather Snap Holster from my Holster box for a full size Hk USP, Also found a FDE Magazine carrier in there too:D

i didn't know they made them in fde, does it means there are new productions or did s&w dabble in fde gun frames earlier than anyone else?

i appreciate s&w finally breaking gap stain clock's back and monopoly and introducing the sigma which eventually led to the superior m&p 9 line of striker pistols, but i just hate the way the sigma looks. it looks almost too much like a toy.

These are new production
Here's the link to the website also available Grey
SD | Smith & Wesson

I sent an email to S&W and asked for a Born on Date with the serial #
Will have to wait & see what they say on this pistol

Rural King shows this as being $350
But are out of stock of the FDE
Show as having the Gray one @ $380

I got an $75 Galco Paddle Holster for an Hk Today & Bet the SD9 will fit in it By It's Looks.. Will Report Back.. Cost $25 Shipped BTW..

I had a Guy on the M&P Forum Tell me I should have my eyes checked
The Reason was I was looking at a $650 Hk P2000 357 SIG & a $520 Glock 19X & the Hk Sold & had my choice & bought a Bargain $285 S&W SD9
I'm stoked to have a brand new bargain handgun that IMO rivals a Glock

I even changed my avatar

Everyone tells stories of their great handgun buys

Mine was a $227 Hk P7M8 two decades ago
Got sold at a HUGE $1000 Profit & got to shoot the daylights out of it & carry it for a couple years..
