SEALs: Tools of the trade...

When I was in the navy I worked with seal team 2 was a pretty chill bunch of guys I was an e-4 at the time and I believe the chiefs name was Eric and he kept telling me to address him as so.

The first names thing is unique to small tactical (or medical) units. It made me CRAZY for a while. "Hey, I'm Brody." to which I replied, "Brody, I'm CHIEF. Here's a broom."
I'm mellowing. The sailor can't be held accountable for a climate like that at the command when the Command Master Chief and Commanding Officer are "Tom" and "Scott".

Squidsix: First i would like to say thank you for your service. Second in one of the posts on this thread, Someone mentioned the S&W 686 was used by the SEALS but you said that they were replaced because they were worn out and that there was no ammunition for them in the military inventory.

I have a thought about that i would like to share if you don't mind. what about the S&W model 625 chambered for .45 acp it could fill the role that the 686 did but since it is chambered for .45 acp there is ammunition for in the Military's inventory.

You're talking about a MAJOR purchasing nightmare. The weapons, these days, have to be in th Crane inventory before we can even ask for them.
I'm not a procurement guy, but I will tell you that if I wanted to get them for my guys, I would be LONG retired before we got through with the paperwork.
As for .45ACP, we were all kinda hoping against hope that the JCP program would happen, but no joy. There were some excellent entries in that.

VERY interesting thread.
squidsix, I was appalled when the military came out with uniforms and gear with velcro...have you gone back to buttons and snaps or something else?
I would also like your opinion on gas inpingement versus piston type systems if you've had any experience.
I really like the suppressed 9mm upper idea of yours. Does someone make one that uses the Sten mag.?

I think it all depends on what you are asking: DI or piston AR? If so, DI all the way. You don't need no stinking piston. The ones I have seen don't do anything the Direct Impingement system does. They are cleaner, but that's about it.
I REALLY like the AK design, which of course is piston operated, and very easy all round, BUT I normall shoot about 196 out of 200 on the USN Rifle qual, and I can't break 165 with an AK. It's the sights, mostly.
Olympic used to make a Pistol upper than ran on Sten mags. Nice setup.

Yeah it was the AR I was talking about. I am thinking of buying a 5.45x39 upper for mine and was told to go piston as the ammo was dirty.
BTW years ago I had a friend of mine Joey Kyle who was a Seal. I have a vest I wear for VFW events and such I have dubbed my tribute vest as it has patches and pins that have been given to me by various Vets over the years. One of the pins is a subdued Eagle & Trident given to me by Joey.
Thanks for your service.

Squid 6-I had a Swedish K in RVN for a while, and I liked it, but do you guys lighten them some way; it seemed a little heavy, but definitely worth the weight!

No sig P239 in any US Military arsenal. Also no HK45C. Don't know about the 66 four inch. They are before my time in the service. The only reason I know anything about the 66 is because of the one on the plaque at the Dam Neck compound.
I have personally NEVER seen a Sig 239 or HK45C in the hands of ANY uniformed service members. I know one NCIS guy who has a 239 DAK he carries from time to time.

Thanks for posting this. I am having a friendly little disagreement with a buddy over this very issue. He maintains that both the 239 and the H&K 45c are used by the SEALS. I say no and now your post confirms it. I'll split my winnings with you, lol.

Tell him to come to Little Creek, VA and ask for the armorer at the Group level (not the teams, those dudes would not talk to him) for NSW.
I'll give him a tour. Then he can go over to ARFCOM and laugh like I do at the "SEAL issue weapons".
