See what happens when you want something different ?

l don't know how much difference an extra inch and a half makes in a 460. But l can say my 10 1/2'' PC is a real fire breather. The 2 times l have fired it in public got everybody's attention very quickly. The first such incident came at an indoor range. Firing the first couple rds of Hornady 200gr factory load caused the whole line to go silent. The next time was outdoors at a monthly IHMSA silh match. l got a similar response as the indoor range. The most amazing aspect of this big revolver was the way it made those 55 pound steel rams jump off the rail at 200 Meters. Never have l seen them actually LEAP in the air before.
l have since learned to enjoy less than MAX loads in this gun..My Speer manual has some quite adequate reduced loads in the 1500-1600fps range. l see the SW460 like the new 700HP Charger HellCat..l don't need all that horsepower to have fun...But lt is nice to know its there

My 12" is ungodly loud indoors, I can't imagine the elevated blast of the compensated versions ! Over the weekend I loaded up some mild 255 gr hard cast SWC's using 13 gr of WST powder and wow what a difference very mild recoil . One quick conclusion, hard cast bullets make a huge mess of my pistol. I think I might go to plated RNFP's to keep the mess to a minimum.

RC-l shoot cast/swaged bullets quite frequently in my 460 PC. My favorite lead load is Trail Boss. That powder is great once you get past the strong Ammonia odor.. My favorite bullet is the Hornady 225gr FTX designed for the 45 Colt.. Keeping that bullet at 1500 fps will allow you to shoot a mild yet very accurate in your 460...The 225 FTX bullets are about half the price of the 200 gr FTX MAGs. l got my 460PC used off GB. The price was reasonable and only item missing from the pkg was the sling.THe thing looks NEW. As is habit for me l asked if he had any ammo. Fortunate for me l got 6 boxes of 200gr FTX containing 112 rds and a full box of 454Casulls. l paid him $150 for the ammo shipped..lt really is a great gun in every way...Accurate and able to reach out flatter, faster, hit harder than any other handgun l have owned before..l mounted a Leupold 4x EER scope on mine and have not any issues with the scope or mount. l really like the way the rings mount directly to the slots cut on top the barrel..S&W is a perfect example of a BIG BAD machine

I've started testing some 255 gr SWC's from Missouri Bullet. I have an old keg of about 8# of Win WST which seems to have a comparable burn rate to Trail Boss. Not going to bother trying Trail Boss as it is almost impossible to find out my way as it's the internet favorite for the subsonic " black gas gun" crowd. Unfortunately I'm lost without the aid of my chronograph data as we have still about 12" of snow on the ground and it's just too dam cold. I loaded up from 11 to 14 gr of WST and they all shot excellent. Now just need to get some #'s and start logging my data. Another .460xvr member also advised me to try the FTX's and simply load light, I will definitely try them.
