S&B has been known for having hard primers in some of its ammo. Otherwise it is quality stuff.

no problems with 9 mm , 38 special wadcutters or 45 acp. however if you reload you will find that the primer pockets will get tight and primers will be hard to seat.

The 148 grain .38 Special wadcutters shot good out of both my Model 19-4 and my Model 52-2 out to 25 yards. I don't reload, so I cannot comment on the problem steveno reports. Price was much more reasonable than the comparable Federal, Winchester, or Remington loads, and they were available at the local hardware store. No 20 mile trip to the local gunshops.

I've shot both 9mm and 45acp and it is seems no better or worse than any other of the cheaper plinking ammo.
I agree with these comments. I've always had good luck with S&B ammo, but the pockets are definitely tight if you are going to reload the cases...
SB ammo is fine. They have been making ammo for a lot longer than many companies. A lot if not all have sealed primers for waterproofing. Lasts forever. Yes the pockets are tight if reloading but not a problem.

A pro and a con for me; I'm a tad old fashioned, and can't get that "be American, buy American" out of my head, yet I do like companies that are at least partially owned by the employees.

I found in 45acp tight primer pockets using Win or Wolf primers. I tried Wolf in their 38's and they were tight,however Win. primers fit ok.
A quick twist or 2 of a deburring tool takes care of the primer pocket.

A co-worker and I had a few boxes of 9mm to try. We used them in an MP40, an MP5, and a Beretta 38/42. 100% reliable.
No problems with 9mm, 38 special, 357 Mag, 40 S&W or 45 acp. 100% reliable. Never noticed that they were all that dirty. They go bang. I don't reload so I can't address any issues there.

it is good ammo i bought a bunch years ago and still have 3000 rounds left. the primer pockets on the lot i have are a little to tight makes them hard to reload.

I have shot S+B quite extensively.It is a little dirty but otherwise no problems

Never shot any but got some .38 cases to reload. Some people in reloading section warned me about primer pocket titeness but I didn't listen and had punch a live prime out. Threw them away.
I fired my first of 6 boxes (50 round ea) yesterday...worked OK DA, but both guns had about a 50% fail rate in single action. It was my first experience with S&B, and my first experience with failure to fire in a revolver. The hammer wasn't hitting the primer hard enough SA.
If the other boxes are like the first, then my first 300 rounds of S&B ammo will be my last 300 rounds. It is pretty sad when you can't count on a revolver to make ammo go bang. The guns were a Model 60 LS & a 686. Both were firing CCI ammo fine. The 686 is new...first time shooting it.

Agree with OCD1. If you can get it cheap buy it up, it has a long shelf life. My 9mm shoot fine.

Well , guess what , much of the Winchester White Box 9mm and 40 ammo is actually made by S&B.
Bought some 9 mm at the local Meijer (kind of like Wal*Mart) on sale for $9.95. Got embarrassed with it at my range. Range prohibits steel ammo, and a magnet sticks! Range confiscated it and gave it back when I left.
Must be some left over Yugo parts melted in with the lead.
