Hi guys,

I'm new to this section and had a couple of questions about selling brass. I don't reload myself, but have been saving up my brass for a while now and have about 30 pounds of spend casing. I have a mix of (they are sorted by calibre) .357mag, .38 special, .44 mag and .45ACP.

With the exception of the .45ACP, it is all once fired brass (I only fired new factory ammo in these calibers. The .45ACP is about half and half once fired and mixed from factory reloads.

I know there are a few places not too far from me that might buy this, but was wondering how that is normally done. Are they bought by number of cases (in which case I would have to count them all - should have been keeping track), or by weight?

Are certain calibers worth more than others, and if anyone has an idea what they might be worth I'd appreciate the info. They are in just fired condition, so they haven't been cleaned or de-primed or anything.

Thanks,

JP

I usually figure the normal price for once fired brass to be half of what new, unprimed would sell for. You could get more for the .45 ACP if you could sort the reloaded cases out from the once fired, otherwise it's value is greatly reduced.

There are a number of sites that sell once fired brass, Goggle search (once fired brass) to find them. What they sell, and for how much, will be a good guide. One site is Brassman Brass and, according to them, .38 sp mixed brass is selling for $ 46.00 per 500 and $ 150.00 per 2000. These are fired, not cleaned or de primed, just as they came from the range.

to give you an idea, i just bought 5000 pieces of 40cal from a forum member that has a range, its dirty but cleans up nice,i bought it for 130 shipped, but i should add that 40 cal is probably the cheapest range brass due to how common it is.

Try posting for sale on this forum. There are a lot of guys here who would be willing to buy it from you. But the problem is that to whoever you sell it to you will have to count it. It's not too bad if you are a couple off the count but one time I was off 45 cases in 500 for 45acp. I was not happy.

yeah there is no way to tell how many times fired - and your down in Georgia - humid down there - yeah that brass ain't worth nothing - I'll PM you and you can send it up to me and I'll properly dispose of it :D

really just kidding

quite a few local gun shops around my home and up in PA are selling used brass in clear bags with number of pounds written on it - I'd think the easiest deal would be to strike up a deal with a local guy - reloaders will probably buy it. a range by my house used to sell their 9mm - 3 lbs for $6 but that was a while ago

now I'm seeing $60 to $70 for 5 lb bag of rifle cases in a different store

I'd pay half new for once fired 357 - if you put it up for sale here

but I think even better advice is for you to keep it- if you shoot - you should reload - and if you reload you should cast your own bullets ---- and these days - who knows what coming down the pike - extra bullet sales taxes???

Stay up on current prices. When I had some brass to sell, several folks wanted to buy it for the price 5 years ago. Know anything else in the ammo-component line that is selling for 5 year old prices? I got .45 acp offers of four cents and sold it for ten cents. Makes a lot of difference on 3000 cases.

Most places will not want to mess with small quantities. The shipping cost is too much. Minimum of 500 is normal and better prices for 1000 and 2000 rounds which fit in a flat rate shipping box.

I am able to put approximately 400 to 500 pieces depending on caliber 9mm 40 cal or 380 in a USPS small flat rate box which ships for $5.80

Thanks for all the input guys. I have had a couple of people PM for the brass and I've looked into what shipping would cost from Canada down to where you guys are and it is pretty expensive - to the point where it wouldn't be attractive I think. I will try to find some place local.

Thanks.

Unless you are the Amazing Kreskin there is no way to determine once fired from twice, or thrice.

You are so wrong. I just got a bunch of once fired 40. I watched factory new ammo get loaded, shot, and then i swept it up.
