semi auto .22

i'm thinking about a semi auto .22 for the grandson. anybody familer with the ATI-GSG1911-22 or the CHIAPPA1911-22 i have'nt up close , only on the internet , thanks , paul.

I have the GSG 1911. It works well, and seems to be quite well made for the price. When I picked it up, my FFL guy mentioned that he had also processed a Chiappa, which looked to be of lesser quality.

Is your grandson mechanically inclined? The reason I ask is because the takedown procedure on the GSG is slightly more complicated than on many 22 pistols.

Also note that the GSG has the same frame dimensions as a regular 1911, so if your grandson has small hands, he might find it a bit bulky to shoot.

he's only 5 , i saw them . thought they were kinda neat. i going to put it in the safe with the rest of his collection to be.

I have handled the Chiappa on several occasions, and would not recommend it. 3 of the 4 different ones I handled had feeding and functioning problems. The quality appears very inconsistent. I have heard good things about the GSG1911, but have not personally handled one.

+1.....if you get the chance to compare both side by side the choice is obvious - GSG hands down

Also they are $322 shipped at Bud's gun shop.

I'll second that only with the MII if you can find them. I just do not like the changes made to the MIII, still a good shooting gun though.
The Browning Buckmark is also a decent gun

I like the Ruger 22/45, I have one that I am trying to wear out, at 25,000 rounds it shows no sign of wearing out anytime soon.

I have introduced new shooters to pistol shooting with it, both youth and women, they always love it. Great accuracy and reliability, all at the same price or lower than the off brands you have mentioned. Ruger has been around for over 60 years, has great customer service and a proven product. Chiappas may be out of business before your son gets a chance to shoot the pistol!
