I just sent off a .460XVR with poor machined seams by the hammer. When they get it what happens, do they call me or just fix it and send it back or what?? I hope someone who has dealt with them please let me know what happens next. Thanks

In my experience, they sent a written estimate of the work to be done. When I received it, I called to authorize the work and make payment. The repaired pistol arrived at my door a few weeks later via Fedex. There was no prior notification given that it was en route.

Assuming that your revolver is under warranty, you may not receive any communication at all, but if you call customer support, they will keep you apprised of any progress. I called them once a week till I got my 1076 pistol back. The problem is that the information available to the customer support personnel seems to be a day or two behind.

If it's under warranty, and your experience is anything like mine, you'll get the gun back before they even acknowledge that they have it.

I had cylinder problems with my 625JM. They sent me shipping instructions, and I sent it back. A week and a day later, my mail drop called to let me know I had a package. The next day, I got a letter saying they had the gun and would fix it as soon as possible.

Their customer service is about the best I have ever experienced.

I was advised and it seems to hold true that warranty work is fast-tracked. At the time I sent my pistol in a few months ago, they told me the turnaround time for warranty work was ~10 days while "charge work" turnaround was running 6-8 weeks. My pistol was returned to me 4 1/2 weeks after the day they received it.

In my experience, S&W while very fast on repair and shipping, is lacking in communication.
They do nothing wrong, I want to make that clear, but there have been times when I would like to know when the return shipment has been made so that I can make arrangements in case I won't be available to receive it.
Other than that, the factory is very well versed at repair, especially if warranty, and will get your gun back to you pronto.
I have sent guns back three times, not all warranty work and have been very happy with the final results.

I hope you did not pay to ship your gun for warranty work as they are happy to pay shipping both ways. I have sent a couple in for warranty, my longest wait was 7 days and that included Saturday and Sunday. Now that was before everything went crazy in firearms and ammo world. :D
