buddy of mine has one. he's a friend of the owner of Serbu Firearms. he got 2, one dealer sample so not a transferable item, but the Remington 870 he owns is for sure transferable. he wants to dump it, and called me first. i do have a trust, and he's an FFL with a class III license. price is awesome, gun is new and VERY cool, but i'm trying to fight the urge... anyone else here have one? they look like a wrist breaker but i have lots of the mini shells. anyone gonna try to talk me out of this one? huh?!

I LOVE good shotguns. But the one you lust after isn't a good shotgun.

Those without a proper stock or with an AR15 style pistol grip are terrible. In other words, a classic shotgun stock.

These stock less shotguns are miserable things for actual shooting and hitting. Very difficult to actually use even reasonably well.

The thing you want interests me not at all. Go try to shoot a 25 round of trap and see what I mean.

A 1897 trench gun can do a round of trap well, although not as well as an over the counter Remington 1100.

I suspect you'd quit before you finished 25 rounds at moving targets with your object of desire.

Jeff Cooper advised that folks should ask "What is it FOR?" about each firearm.

Then ask "what would do the job as well? . What would do the job better?

Any bird gun will do better.

Apples and grapefruit.

If we are going to make silly comparisons, go conceal your trap gun under your coat and take part in a dignitary protection detail. That is not what it is for, just as a Serbu is not built to shoot trap. It is a concealable short range personal protection arm that does have a valid use.

To the OP:

If I may paraphrase Tom Hnatiw, Do you need this gun, no. Do you want this gun, OH YEAH!

I don't own a proper trap gun. But every shotgun I own will do anything I want done. I use trap as a practice opportunity.

Sorry you got confused. Few of us are in the Secret Service or the buisness of protecting those within the secret service mandate .

More to the point: most of us just want to be safe. This thing adds nothing to your safety.

this possible purch has not one thing to do with practicality. this is only a fun/cool item iv'e wanted since i was a wee one watching miami vice. i too have other shotguns for sporting clays, skeet and the duck blind. to the point, a browning maxus, remington 1100 and 870, and a couple of other o/u. this thing is just 'cause i WANT it... not need it.

I not confused. Your argument is silly and specious.

You've already got a trust, he's got the gun in hand, I'd say it's meant to be. Send in the Form 4 now before July 13th.

This is America!

The only reason we need to buy something is to want it. As far as the one you want, practical, probably not. Totally freakin' cool, yes. I've bought guns for the same reason.

I have handled them and the people I know who own it are very happy I think its only a $5.00 transfer stamp.
If I were to buy one I would opt for 20 gauge, truly an optimum close range weapon.

I have one based on the Mossberg platform. I decided to get it repapered as a SBS because it was really of limited use with a pistol grip. If you were defending the front seat of the car from an attack from the back seat, it would be great, but otherwise...not so much. With a stock on it I am still sure as hell not shooting trap, but it does move it into the realm of usable firearms.
If you do get one that has the traditional pistol grip on it, you should consider a "bird's head" grip, that is, one that has the general shape of the grip of a flintlock pistol. Far easier on your wrist and much much more comfortable.
Here's mine after spending another $200 for that SBS stamp:

Peep sights make it real easy to teach a newbie how to bust birds.

We only shoot out over the pasture,, I ain't taking it to a club,,,
