Anybody know the approx. year on a 64-5?
Apparently, the 64-5 was produced between 1988-1998.
It looks to be 1982.
"1982 9D44501-17D8900" (year & serial number range)

It's impossible to tell when any of these were manufactured. What your looking for is when it was shipped. Without a complete serial number it's just a guess.
I'm not quite the expert as many are on this forum regarding S&W, but I'm not aware of any Model 629 guns with a 10" barrel.
It'd be best just to post photos of the subject Model 629 including most of the serial number and what can be seen of the model number.

Hopefully, you still have the original shipping box. If so, look at the label, just to the right of the bar code located on the left hand side of the label. You'll see a six digit number directly above the Model Number which represents the Month, Day, and Year, with two digits assigned for each.
Here's an example:
The label illustrated shows a shipping date of September 23, 2016.
If you don't have the original box on something this recent, your best bet is probably a call to Smith & Wesson to see if they can pin down the ship date for you.

Good Day, I am new and looking for year of production on a new S & W I just purchased. It is a 629-6 serial number CEY-1167. It has the serial number stamped twice on the revolver. Is this normal? It is a .44 magnum. Thanks for any information you can provide. Thanks John

ship/ mfg Date?
Looking for a ship/ mfg. date for a 686-6 I just purchased. It is represented as unused, however the box looks like it has been around a while. If someone has a way of figuring this out based on the Serial number DLH8962, I would be most grateful! Thanks in advance for your help!
