I am seriously debating switching from a J frame to a Shield and see all the different options and not really sure what is my best bang for my buck. I like the idea of the laser but then again I am concerned that training with a laser will cause issues when training and possibly having to use something with no laser. I am also concerned that I cannot find a decent holster for the laser model. I would like something OWB.

As far as 1.0 vs 2.0 goes is the 2.0 really a better upgrade? I know its textured which I don't know if that's good or bad and reports seem that the triggers aren't really that different?

Your thoughts on all?

Sorry you haven't gotten any responses. I will give a few thoughts. I am a huge fan of lasers. Won't buy a pistol that might be used for defense if CT doesn't have a laser for it. I assume you are thinking of the gun from S&W w/ the laser. All I can suggest is check w/ various holster makers. Another option is a Shield and a CT laser. They have an IWB holster you can get w/ it.

We actually don't practice w/ the lasers all that much. I do insist on the last few mags be shot w/ a laser at each range trip. That red dot is simply faster for me and the difference is greater when I try shooting in weird positions.

Now for the other point of view.
The only time I've used lasers, is for Dry Fire practice. I have a laser snap-cap (SureStrike™ Premium Kit - Laser Training Laser Ammo) that is triggered by he striker/firing pin, to show me 'where my shot went' and to show how much I may have flinched during trigger break.

Many I know that use lasers to aim, end up 'chasing the dot' and many who tried using a laser in club competition, ended up not using it at all.

For SD training and club shoots, I barely even use the sights... Just point-n-shoot.

To Each His Own

I traded into a Shield 2.0 with integrated laser (red) just this week.
Found out real quick that a laser is only good as an indoor/nighttime feature.
In the bright Az sun yesterday, it was completely unusable.... even from my shooting spot in the shade of a tree it was barely discernible when pointing at something a few feet away, ALSO in the shade. In the sun, it doesn't exist.
But, this is what I expected. I had a feeling that it's useful place was in the house or during the night outside.
I sure wish they would come out with the same integrated setup for a led light, taking up the same amount of space on the frame.

Anyways, the gun shot great... perfect function and excellent accuracy.
The laser doesn't alter the dimensions or ergonomics in any way to make it a lesser choice than a regular Shield if NOT using the laser.
I look at it as I do the safety on the Shield... it's there if you want to use it, and unobtrusive enough if not used.
Plenty of holster choices out there as well.
