Hey everyone. I am looking into getting a pistol and have gone back and fourth between a few different pistols and sizes. One that I am really interested in is the shield 2.0 PC ported carry pistol. Can anyone tell me if this is a good pistol? I am tossed up between this and the ruger max 9. I am leaning towards this because I already have shield holsters and an extra mag for it.

Well, in my opinion, I would say the M&P 9 Shield 2.0 PC is a good pistol and it is relatively easy to carry. I've had the 3.1" barrel version for about 5 years now without a problem. It's a good shooter and the porting helps with muzzle rise. It has a slimmer grip than the Shield Plus and there is less printing with the lower capacity mags. Capacity is your trade-off between it and the Plus.

yes that is the one I am looking at. I have had a shield before when they first came out. I live in a limited capacity state so the largest capacity I can have is 10 rounds so while the shield only has an 8 and 7 round magazines, but that's not a big deal.
The Shield will be less likely to develop surface rust over time due to being nitrided (Melonite) vs the black oxide finish that he Ruger has.
How much this matters to you may be dependent upon environmental conditions, carry method, and personal body chemistry. Some people swear more, some seem to have more corrosive sweat.

I have the Shield 2.0PC 4" and LOVE it. It is an awesome shooter.

I've been carrying the Shield PC 9mm exclusively for years. However, I dropped in a Lone Wolf non-ported barrel for that purpose since I'm not a fan of ported anything for personal defensive carry. This is due to the possibility of self-injury if the need to fire occurs during an up-close/ or contacted physical altercation.
I learned to shoot from a retention position a couple years ago after wanting to buy a buying a ported M&P 2.0 5" PC40sw with a in line ported a barrel not a angled port or comp style for up close defensive needs from a trainer that owns a gun shop & range and is a gunsmith .
For that person that gets to close you should be bracing your wrist and butt end of your handgun tight to your body and regardless if your pistol is ported or not you should be rotating your pistol away from your body at about a 45* angle . This also keeps your slide clear of your body or cover garment under recoil . So I bought the ported m&p and but recently picked up a hellcat pro comp for a lighter smaller carry option.
Like most anything evolving defensive handgun training you have to practice .

I don't think that you'll be disappointed with the PC Shield Plus 9mm. Mine is an EDC, and I've never had any issues with it. It's light, easy to conceal, and the porting does reduce muzzle flip and allow for quick follow up shots. I had one of the original PC Shield 9mm, but decided I wanted some extra rounds and traded that for a Shield Plus. I recently added a Talon Slide Grip to the slide to help with racking. I usually carry it in a Sticky pocket holster, but occasionally will use my Crossbreed AIWB. Good luck!

It's really hard not to recommend the Shield 2.0 PC highly enough. Great shooters, accurate, low recoil, easy to carry, what's not to like. I have a pair, one in 9mm and one in .40, in fact the .40 is sitting on my desk as I type. If you're thinking 9mm, you can add the MagGuts spring to the 7 round mag increasing its capacity to 9 rounds plus one in the pipe.
