I'm new to the handgun world. I'm looking for a paddle holster for my shield 40 but not having any luck. I'd like a blackhawk SERPA but I don't see one for the shield. Would the m&p 40c holster work or no? This will be what I use when at my buddies ranch or on private land. Thanks for the advice.

I would also recommend Cook's Holsters. I have 3 of them and his work is great. They carry very nice and hold the pistol well.

The SERPA works for the M&P full size and compact. The Shield is narrower, making the fit too loose. If this is for Concealed Carry (CCW) you might look at an Inside the Waist Band (IWB) style. If you prefer standard paddle, take a look at the above recommendations or check the offerings from Galco or DeSantis. Outside the Waist Band (OWB) holsters are a bit more stable on a belt, but paddle-style is a bit more convenient.

Good luck.

Appreciate the advice guys. Haven't gotten to look at all of them yet but I'll get on it. Thanks again

I have a holster company and shortly putting together a paddle holster for a Shield for someone on the forum. If you still have trouble in a few weeks, hit me up and ask me how it went...

the OWB that I have seen from Cook is nothing more that an IWB left hand clip holster used out side right hand, don't know if he has changed the design recently.

So I got a Blackhawk SERPA for my Sig MK25 in the mail yesterday that I ordered some time ago. Let me say, I'm not really in love. It doesn't seem to want to stay real good when I draw, yet it stays enough to be a real pain to remove. I thought it would be ideal for a gun I dont see carrying it often but would like to be able to throw it on if you will from time to time. Sort of disappointed but I am going to keep trying it.

I did buy a Galco King Tuk recently for my Shield 9 and I LOVE IT. Absolutely love it, and I highly recommend it. Enthusiastically recommend it.

Not to further confuse matters, but the Blackhawk Serpa can be a Serpa Tactical, a Serpa Sportster owb, or a Serpa Concealment. Wasn't sure since you mentioned carrying it on your buddy's ranch if that meant owb or iwb.

In any event, if you're looking for a concealed IWB, don't overlook the Alien Gear Holster Cloak and Tuck 2.0 made especially for the Shield 9/40. Great feel, great carry, and great price vs. a Cross Breed.

All the best.
