For some reason I cannot convince my son to abandon his Nano for a S&W Shield. To be fair, the DA only feature of the Nano is nice if you're content with that action. But it does not shoot any better than the Shield and is about the same size. Magazine capacity is the same or similar depending which magazine one is using. Does anyone have more experience with a Nano vs Shield to offer advice?

Advice is let him decide for himself what he uses. Why does he need to switch if he's happy.
I prefer S&W but I wouldn't force my opinion on my son.

Is there a reason you are trying to get him to abandon his Nano. It sounds like he likes it and is satisfied with its performance. I would try to accept that maybe he doesn't want a Shield.

My husband and I both have the 9mm Shield and have decided a heavier DA first pull without a safety is what we prefer. Took a couple of years of carrying different types of guns to reach that conclusion.
You can expose people to a range of firearms, but their carry choice is personal.

Sounds like you haven't given him any reason to change so why would he if he is satisfied with what he already has.

It is his choice... specially if he is comfortable with the Nano...

I have a Nano, and regret not following through on buying the Shield when it first came out (I had a deposit and everything and when it came in decided to pass on it... ) and now I am buying one. Nothing wrong with the Nano... so far it has worked with everything that I load in it... no issues. I even got a laser for it. But I really like how the Shield feels in my hands...

I can't give you a reason to go with one or the other that would convince your son... if you are so determine on it, why not buying him the Shield and let it grow on him? That way he can keep both. Nothing wrong with that. :)

Shield vs Nano

Actually all, it's just friendly banter between us. I don't really care whether he buys a Shield or not; and he doesn't care whether I like Berettas or not. I gave him an awarded Beretta years ago. For us it's just something to talk about. I just don't know much about the Nano and I wondered if folks on the forum had shot it, and what did they think. Heck, I may buy one.

Don't go crazy now... no need to buy the Nano... :D Your Shield is the way to go...

Do not get me wrong, my favorite gun, because of how good I am shooting it, is my Beretta 92FS M9A1... just right for me from day one.

I feel the same way with the Shield... reason why I want it over the Nano... and why I regret not buying it in the first place...
