I just picked up my Shield. Want to take it down. Did a dry fire but I have no audible click of the pin firing. I have not taken it to the range yet. I am wondering if it is OK to fire. All the videos online have an audible click. Also, videos show a way to field strip by pulling the trigger in stead of disengaging the sear. Does the hurt the firearm?

Try dry firing it with an empty chamber and empty mag inserted and see if goes click.

Also, pulling the trigger for disassembly will not harm the pistol, just make sure the chamber is empty. If the trigger won't "pull" without a mag inserted, use the sear disconnect lever.

Yep go ahead and dry fire away.

Some shields have been shipped with out a striker. Watch some YouTube videos of how to take the striker out. You might not even have one.

And why not just use the yellow lever like your supposed to?

I could be wrong, but isn't there a state that requires the Shield, and maybe other pistols, to not have the ability to fire with the mag removed? If so, you might have one of those pistols.

On the slide, does it say this?

You can pick up some snap caps if you want, that's what I use. But you can remove the mag and rack the slide back & let it go and then pull the trigger, you should hear a "click" as the striker is released, while keeping the trigger depressed, pull the slide back & release and then slowly let off the trigger & you should hear the audiable reset as a 'click". I would suggest using snap caps however dry firing the pistol wont hurt anything.

If I am going to dryfire a pistol just a little AND the manufacturer says its okay I won't use snap caps. Otherwise I WILL use the snap caps, both for safety (read no negligent discharges) and to reduce wear on the pistol. I have broken firing pins and slide parts due to heavy dryfire back in my younger days. None since I started using snap caps.

A trick with your Shield after field stripping is to insert the magazine after you have put the slide back on AND released the take down lever back to its normal use position. The mag insert will move the yellow take down tab inside the magazine well back to its "in service" position.

Thank you all. I ask more for inquisitiveness. Had I waited 5 more minutes to post and my own answer would have been clear. I do like the idea of using the sear disconnect as an additional safety factor and will do so. God knows there are always accidental shooting even with the most experienced shooters.
